It would appear one of our fellow board members, a man everybody either loves or loves to hate, has applied for an LPFM license in Beaumont, Texas.
Continuous Wave, as he's known here, now claims he's the director of a nonprofit called the Triangle Repeater Association.
He says in the filing that he "is committed to truth and facts" and that he plans "to program such over the air to the community as a public service, providing local programming of discussion and open thought." Okay, so it would seem we're all going to be listening to CW's thoughts blasting out on 91.9 from a tower halfway between Rose City and Vidor. https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=25076ff38c46c86a018c6dd7c2b54e83&facid=788773
What's interesting about this one is that its a MIXED application, with two other applicants wanting the same frequency. One is the Weather Alert Radio Network, an applicant who has apparently filed for over a hundred licenses when they are in fact only allowed one (1). https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=25076f918a77c67c018a80e6a19c0226&facid=778227
The other applicant is a HAM radio club in Lumberton. Their educational statement says "We intend to use this new station to further educate people about HAM radio, and to serve the community with coverage of local events, church services, and public
service announcements. https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=25076ff38c46c86a018c46ce98770003&facid=788149
That's where this gets really interesting. The Lat and Lon indicate the Lumberton LPFM will go on an AM tower. Okay, yes, its everybody's favorite dumpster fire, KHTW 1300. You know, the station Continuous Wave claims he technically still owns, or rather should own, and that he is fighting in court to get it back.
Looking at the contours, it would seem there's enough distance so both LPFM's can share 91.9, but they're gonna be close. Maybe that's the intention, overlap and simulcast. Good way to make an LPFM serve a larger area.
Things that make you go hmmmmmm.
