New Market Manager at Cumulus SF

Does the great Lee Hammer get to continue running KNBR?

Here's the full press release:

CUMULUS San Francisco Welcomes Bill Bungeroth as Market Manager, Cumulus Media Partners-SFO

SAN FRANCISCO--Executive VP and Co-Chief Operating Officers John Dickey and Jon Pinch announced this morning the appointment of radio industry leader Bill Bungeroth as Vice President/Market Manager for Cumulus Media, San Francisco. Bungeroth assumes his new post immediately, overseeing the legendary Cumulus’ San Francisco brands, KNBR, 107.7 The Bone (KSAN), KTCT and KFOG.

Bungeroth offered, “I’m excited to be working with Cumulus in SF and I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead with our heritage radio stations.”

Bungeroth has had a significant role with Cumulus. He co-founded the radio group, and was named Cumulus’ initial President and CEO. Upon the introduction of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, Bungeroth championed Cumulus’ continued growth and led the team in taking the company public.

Jon Pinch noted, “We are delighted to have Bill back with Cumulus. He's a true broadcast pro, well suited to lead this extremely important Cumulus cluster.”

Bungeroth comes to the position after a significant radio and entrepreneurial career with strong ratings and revenue successes. He conceived and launched “The Huckabee Report” with Governor Mike Huckabee, now on 560 stations. He also championed “The Download with iTunes” and most recently, led the executive team that launched the 24/7 Comedy Network nationwide.

Bungeroth was the initial President/CEO and co-founder of the Cumulus radio group. If my memory serves me right, he left the first time Cumulus almost went under due to financial "problems" due to "accounting improprieties" and a resulting class action suit. Both Bungeroth & the CFO departed at that time. Lew became CEO. And the rest is...

I wonder if the stock price will plummet like it did in 2000 after this guy "resigned". Does the board know that this dinosaur is running the SF cluster? Are they going to bring back the CFO from 2000 as well? Someone should alert the Securities Exchange Commission. Maybe this will have the FCC and Department of Justice looking a little more closely to this pending sale.

He's here to keep the new KFOG PD from screwing up even further. ;)

KUFX's ratings will rise even higher now that they have Big Rick on Entercom's payroll. Now that Rick has left KFOG. and probalby we might see another station flip into AAA and take new listeners away from KFOG if its eminant if Cumulus management keeps screwing up the stations.
