Hi, thanks for receiving me into your group. My name is Tom. I'm 74 years old. Born and raised in California. Moved to Oklahoma in 2003. I have an AA degree in Electronic Technology (1969). Part of our final was to take the FCC Class 1 test. Only 3 of the 19 class members passed the test. Sadly, I was NOT one of them. So I went on to bag groceries for Albertson's Market. Repairing TVs, radios, electrical goodies paid $1,25 hour. Bagging groceries paid $1.45 an hour. That job launched my career. I have always had an interest in radio and music. In 1974 I did run across a new radio station in Los Gatos,, KRVE FM. Showed an interest to the station and said I wanted to be a DJ. the PD said I needed to get a sponsor and my FCC license then I could. I managed to talk a pet shop located in San Jose into sponsor me. I did pass my FCC 3rd Class with Element 9 and a Broadcast endorsement. I was Ready to rock. Lasted 6 months there and was let go because sponsor only lasted 2 months. Enrolled in Foothill Jr. College and took Broadcast Journalism 101. Foothill has a radio station KFJC FM and because of my previous experience, I was able to get a 3 hour time slot weekly. Most others had to finish the Journalism class. Lucky me !! That lasted for 2 years and I had to move on. Never got an opportunity to find time (still working for Albertson's) for more broadcasting. However, I have kept the interest in radio ever since.
