New Mix Coming Thursday

Is it going to be Rhythmic AC like WNEW's "Mix 102.7" did back in 2005 where they are playing lots of disco and freestyle dance songs just like the one that used to have back in the WBPM's "Rhythm 94.3" days? I remember "Rhythm 94.3" when it used to be a station playing "Jammin' Oldies" back around 1999 until 2001. I missed that station so much. I hope that the Hudson Valley had never had a classic dance station before after "Rhythm 94.3" pulled the plug back in 2001. Remember "Mix 102.7" in New York City had a rhythmic AC format since 2004 until 2007 before it became "Fresh". I hope classic dance will come back to the Hudson Valley.

No they are going to drop to 70's and play 90's, 2000's and todays hits with some 80's mixed just like what Star 93.3 is doing.

Any chance ex-Star 93.3 Marc Bolger will be hosting the morning show on Mix? Has he surfaced anywhere since leaving Star 93.3?

Yes! WCZX is going Hot AC, just like WBWZ's "Star 93.3" and WCTW's "The Cat" at 98.5. Look like all of the listeners from "Mix" would either go to WRNQ's "Lite-FM" and WHUD. I guess WCZX will going to sound a lot like as I said "Star 93.3", "The Cat" at 98.5 and WPLJ.

Yes and Suzy's salary will go to pay Mark - her shift will make money as satellite feed feeds Atlanta.

What did I miss?
Dx1ng asks is it possible That Mark Bulger is the new morning show promised new morning show starting this Thursday on WCZX. Next thing it’s posted as a fact that Bob and Suzie were let go to pay for Mark’s salary. Add to that the second ‘fact’ that midday ‘Suzie’s shift’ will be satellite fed. Where does this come from? Insiders can’t talk because of confidentiality agreements. I’ll admit the satellite feed for mid-day makes some financial sense, as the mega broadcasters look for ways to cut expenses, local service be damned. This would leave 97.7 local only during drive times. Right now WCZX is running jock less with a very light commercial load. Why would they give up that income? Back when Jack Hammer left WBPM for Cumulus owned, WKXP I wondered if that was just temporary, and they had bigger plans for him. Could that be on WCZX? True IF the new mix 97.7 is more like Star 93.3, Mark would be a better fit, but it is all just speculation, in the absence of fact. We will have to wait until Thursday.
Speaking of WKXP if the 12+ ratings were to be believed that station would be the one ripe for a change, not mid pack WCZX. I wonder why they haven’t done anything about “The Wolf’? Because the 12+ratings don’t mean anything either. Who really knows what is going on?

I listened to "Mix 97.7" and they are jockless for now until this Thursday. I've heard the announcement that the "New Mix" is coming this Thursday. I can't wait to record the relaunch of the "New Mix 97.7" and it's going to become Hot AC, just like "Star 93.3" and 98.5 "The Cat" which is WCTW as well as WPLJ. I will be set the timer for early Thursday morning, and after this is done, I will be posting an aircheck of the relaunch of the "New Mix 97.7" with the arrival of Mark Bolger or maybe another morning host to take over Bob Miller. Stay tuned as soon as it develops.

Banking on Bolger's top rated Fall '10 Arbitron to bring in big dollars Bolger is on WCZX. However, he's had some very inconsistent books over the past years which is no reflection on him or his efforts. He is one of the Hudson Valley's Beloved Signature Talents.

Arbitron in this market is unreliable to say the least. Just months ago Nielsen was being touted as the best new methodology. Now it is back to Arbitron. Shocking how Mark Bolger's numbers differed from the Nielsen ratings to Arbitron. Night and day. With any ratings company the numbers never will be consistent in this market.

The 'New Mix' may get a spike because it is new but if Cumulus operates the station the way they operate, it will falter just like it has in the past. Remember when Mix debuted years ago it was top rated as well.

Common knowledge Atlanta was sucking the life blood out of WCZX. Bob and Suzy's performance had nothing to do with 97.7's numbers. They hadn't had a major promotion to speak of in years. There was nothing invested in the brand. In fact quite the opposite. Maybe they should have invested in the brand first which would have yielded more positive results and community relations.

They are using Bob Miller and Suzy's Salaries to pay Mark's contract and will syndicate Suzy's shift so Atlanta will see an instant revenue stream which completely bypasses the Hudson Valley, nothing new here.

Bob Miller's name recognition alone makes him invaluable to any group, not to mention his talent. It won't be long before he is back. He is Synonymous with Hudson Valley Culture. Rumblings are that Suzy has been hired just in time for Spring Arbitron which is a no brainier. Suzy is a standout among Cumulus talent past and present with an exceptional ability to connect with listeners in person and on air. No one seems to know where she is yet. Hiring her is an outstanding strategic move showing a real connection to the community.

So to sum it up Cumulus takes one step forward and then two steps back with this move.

The only thing that is still up in the air is WHERE Suzy is signed. There is confirmation.

I'm recording the relaunch of the "New Mix 97.7" when it flipped from AC to Hot AC with the debut of Mark Bolger. I will be posting an aircheck after it's going to be done.

I guess WCZX is now Hot AC. If you look at the three stations, they got WBWZ's "Star 93.3" and WCTW's "98.5 The Cat" and the "New Mix 97.7" which it debut today. Those are the three stations that are carrying Hot AC. Don't we had formats to fill in? It will sound a lot like WPLJ. And guess what, they dumped the 70's music from the station. If you can't enough 70's music, they should bring all the former listeners to go to either WRNQ's "Lite-FM" and WHUD.

What are the odds "Sue Turk" is back at WPDH?

The prognosticators were right the new Mix 977 is hot AC. Loping off the 70’s music in favor of new music, will appeal to a younger audience, which is what the sponsors want. However I personally don’t like it near as much. We already have a hot AC in Star 93.3. I guess Cumulus is taking direct aim at rival Clear Channel, first with WKXP against WRWD in the country genre and now this. So far Mark is doing nothing special, it’s his first day and he is just playing music. He had numerous ‘testimonials’ from people calling him and welcoming him back on the air. He must have gotten some angry calls as well. With his usual class He mentioned Bob and Suzie being let go, saying it was a business decision, like all businesses these things happen. He said Bob is very talented and will land somewhere.
He and Frankenbury said after the 97 minute music mix at 9:00AM {syndicated} Rick Dees will be doing mid-days. No surprise there that they are filling in cheaply with a satellite program. Then Frankenbury at 3 followed by “as much music mix we can throw at you”. I guess that means John Tesh is gone, a big plus and they will be straight automated after 7:00

Seems as though even stations that still brand themselves as adult contemporary have shifted to Hot AC over the past few years. I thought it was a really good station five or six years ago. Talented jocks (Miller, Jones, Garcia, Turner, Reynolds, Jimmy D, etc.) and a very good AC format. I like the 'Mix' brand and feel it would have a lot of potential if Cumulus weren't so cheap.

Is Therese Quinn still working at Mix?

And you forgot to mention WCTW's "The Cat", which is still a Hot AC at 98.5. Don't we have enough room to fill in on the Hot AC format? We had two stations in the Hudson Valley, but now that brings us a total of three Hot AC stations including WBWZ, WCTW and now WCZX.

Thank goodness for that. Now that Mark Bolger is back on the air after a 3-month absence with WBWZ where Chris Marino takes over on his chair after leaving "Kiss" back in December. I remember him back in the "K-104" days when he was doing mornings back in the 1990's before he went to WBWZ.
