New Morning Show on Project 961

Congrats to The Giant Show with Giant Brian & Shaffee on Project 961.

I was expecting a wacky morning zoo type of show. This show actually has a nice flow so far.

First thoughts? Anyone? anyone?

Did I just hear a "Giant Show" promo stating "it's framtastic?"

A brief check of it this morning reaffirmed my belief that this won't last 12 months.

Although I was pleasantly surprised to actually hear two songs in a 15 minute span, I also had the misfortune of hearing them try to discuss college football. You try that in this part of the country, it's best to have some idea of what you're talking about. Unfortunately for them, they don't, as they displayed by discussing how Auburn had lost to two lowly ranked teams. Umm, South Florida is #6th/9th, and Kansas State just blew out (previously) top 10 Texas.

It was just painful to hear them doing what they had clearly been instructed to do when it didn't fit them at all. I still think they would suck mightily if they were just themselves, but at least then it would be honest suckitude. Instead, they were put into a situation where they were forced to sound like idiots through no fault of their own (other than a lack of adequate preparation).

All their presence did was give me a reason to check out other morning shows (that sucked equally as much) until I scanned back around & found them back on music.

You are right and wrong about the Auburn thing. Auburn almost lost to K-State, but pulled it out late. They did lose to Mississippi State who is unranked. You are right about USF being a quality team that isn't lowly ranked although they weren't this highly ranked when they beat Auburn a couple of weeks ago either.

Wow...what a great afternoon show. Shades of Dick & Justice sprinkled with Cindy and Ray. Lot's of substance -- especially the hard-hitting expose with Rodney "Chris Williams's" Ho.

How awesome is it we waited an extra two months for Shaffee McPukes A Lot...where do they keep the sawdust for this in-studio vomit fest???

You're right, I flat out misremembered the K-State bit. But just as GT's win over ND doesn't look 1/10th (or 1/1000th) as good now as it did the next day, neither does Auburn's loss to USF look as bad so their phrasing was poorly chosen. Still, how quickly you were able to correct my mistake highlights one of my other points --
if you're going to get into this particular subject in the South, you better not be auditioning for the role of clueless guy in those ESPN Mobile commercials (which would be even dumber since it went belly up IIRC).

As bad as the segment was, I actually felt a little sorry for them for being put in that position in the first place.

I ran across the show and listened for a bit. They were talking about Bret Michaels and had a reality show guest on the phone. They seem to be good potential hosts, I didn't know who they were talking about but they handled themselves well and were somewhat interesting to listen to. Certainly better than anything else on the radio this morning although I would have switched to anything other than sports talk if they had done that.
I was worried that the new show would have been a trying too hard to be funny laugh fest so it's refreshing to hear something closer to listenable.

They could be the greatest hosts on Atlanta radio (not saying much) but it won't matter if 96.1 keeps throwing the overplayed classic rock crap into their playlist and charges headlong into that comfy 1.0ish share CR territory that Atlanta stations just gravitate to.

I like them... some hacky morning bits, (You stink awards), but I think they'll be pretty good. I wonder if they wanted to call it the "You suck" awards and someone at CC thought that was too edgy, so they renamed it "You stink!"

Whatever happened with Perrynoid being part of the show? Is that why it was delayed because he did not fit in or get along?

Amen Perryrrhoid! I thought for sure there'd be more comments about the Project's new puker, but I guess a lot of people missed the show (lucky them). Pretty lame debut; looks like CC is going to keep them on a super-short leash and not let any funny creep into the studio bits.

I think they said today that the Perrynoid thing was a hoax or something. Perrynoid will never leave the freedom of XM. In this post-Imus world we live in, it would be career suicide.

wouldnt it?

They didn't do "What's In My Pocket", did they?

Not that I heard nor did they have on hand the slutty sidechick. A real missed opportunity there.

Um... Ron and Fez don't pay Perrynoid.

"You suck" is obvious, "You stink" is actually funnier for some reason. Made me laugh. Less music, please! Anything, even dead air, is a suitable oasis from the 96rock-era "classics", 90s alt-rock and modern screamo crap.

Perry was never part of the show. He's a wannabe who knows Brian and tries to do bits to be part of the show.

Have to say I'm shocked that knowing Brian has been in ATL 2 months, that this is what they came up with for the first show? Hardly any content, pretending they care about college football, and that Shaffee dude is so fake. We get it - you're the angry guy who hates everything and mumbles. We also get you're a guy and like guy stuff.

I hope there's a better plan, because after the regular guys, and Toucher - this show seems lame so far. Atlanta deserves better.

Brian doesn't understand how to be mean and funny at the same time. A caller requested a Tool Song for his dying dog and was offered Foo Fighter tickets. They just sounded like [EDIT]. They are such wannabes of Opie and Anthony.

[EDIT-profanity]

Please, somebody, make these two halfwits stop trying to talk about sports.

This morning's brilliance was all about how bad MNF sucks compared to SNF. In & of itself that wouldn't have been so bad, as Sunday night has indeed become what Monday night used to be. Where they really went off the deep end was the ramble about how no one watched on Monday's. Of course, it's still the most watched sports event on cable each week, still one of the most watched cable shows period, etc. Big gap between that reality and the picture they tried to present.

I'm afraid that the 7:50ish segment has been slotted for them to talk about sports, when it's already obvious that it's a subject they probably ought to avoid altogether. At least let them suck honestly instead of forcing them into situations where they're doomed to fail because they're out of their range.

I think they'll get better as they get more comfortable, and more used to their new city. I do remember a time when
everyone hated the Regular Guys. And they found their audience.

That's because they were new and too frank in their opinions. I hated the Regular Guys when they started, but at least they had game. These two don't. Maybe that'll change, but not likely in the Clear Channel environment.
