New morning show on WNDE

From Radio-info.com:

Clear Channel’s “Sports Radio” WNDE (1260) Indianapolis, debuts its new morning show “Zakk and Jack,” July 26. The duo, Dominic Zaccagnini and former Colts Quarterback Jack Trudeau, will also be syndicated nationally by the Fox Sports Radio Network. Zaccagnini, also known in the past as Zakk Tyler, has been heard on radio in Chicago and Atlanta. He was the co-creator and managing editor for WXIN/Fox-59 News IndySportsNation.com before joining Sports Radio 1260 WNDE. The new show replaces a rebroadcast of "JT and the Brick,” which originally airs from 1 – 6am.

Jack Trudeau is a very nice man. I hope it works out well for him.

The smart money is still on 1070 The Fan. That station has never sounded better.

Not if you include the era with Chuck Riley, Jerry Baker, Orly Knutson, Harry Andrews, Fred Heckman, Lou Palmer, Gary Todd, Bob Lamey etc. when they were #1 in the market.

1070 will be WIBC to many forever. So far less than 1 percent of it's call letter life has been on FM.

And whatever is on FM really isn't what WIBC was.

The days of local sports and news are gone and we have homogenized sports from the bird and a few plug in shows.

1070 may sound the best it has in a year but it still sounds so much like ESPN 1550 in Crawfordsville that I can't say it is remarkable. When you look at it's past it is not remarkable, it is sad.

I miss grumpy newspeople with guns threatening to shoot people at 2835 N Illinois, Indy 500 Chick Pics, Mirrored Ceilings in the control riim, and all that went with the era.
Guess we have to get over what radio used to be. Thanks for the advice.

the WNDE morning show will be a secondary syndicated program on the Fox Sports Radio network. Stephen A Smith will be the primary morning show.

But Like WNDE and I Guess WARF in Akron OH both stations were displeased with SAS that they have out right dumped his show for another show. And FSR syndicating another show in the same time slot doesnt show total faith in SAS

A live 2 person morning show on WNDE. That in and of itself is pretty surprising in 2010.

1070 is has espn droning on in the morning don't they? They only are interesting when they are local, and not always then either. Sports talk will never be more than a niche format.

Just about everything is a niche format. Often you can become the most mass appeal by targeting a narrower audience. B & T target men, but gets surprising female numbers. N/T generally target conservatives and often get big overall numbers. Sports targets men, but is now #1 25-54 in adults in Detroit on a relatively new station. Sports in NY, Chicago, and Dallas are in the upper echelon of adult stations in their respective markets. WHHH and WTLC are "niche" stations, but both top 5 25-54 adults. Hell, if a station is in the top 4 or 5 in men OR women 25-54, I would sell that "niche" all day long!

True, there are very few mass appeal radio stations now. It's much tougher for tv to find mass appeal shows too with so many niche cable formats dividing the audience.

Yep...the days of 1 station having a 70 share at night are just a dream now. But it happened with some regularity 45 years ago--on AM no less. Mass Appeal as we once knew it is getting rare. It still happens with Country stations, but how long will it be before there is more than Young Country, Mainstream Country & Classic Country? When Country Rap becomes a niche format, I'll be hangin' it up.

Another way to look at it... "mass appeal" station equaled limited choice. When 6,8, 13 and sometimes 4 were the only channels you could get they became "mass appeal" by default. The same thing occurred in radio.

Chess game.... WNDE knows daytime is the time they can compete with 1070 in the immediate metro (465 loop and 15 miles beyond it)... Live metro morning show counter-programmed to a national show with renowned.... After dusk, they suffer by losing 25% of the metro signal on the NW side of the market (towards Lebanon, Zionsville).....
