New Morning Show rolls in to town

Word on the street is that a new morning show is set to hit to air on The Zone Feb 2nd - Mark and Mercedes in the morning, formerly of KMXB-fm Las Vegas. How many does this make now within the past 2 - 3 years? Anyone want to take bets on how long this one will last before B.K. decides to pull yet another plug?

Wow... picture the most stereotypical he said, she said AC morning show that repeats the same tired topics that the genre has been pounding into the ground for 2 decades. There's your new morning ZONE!

Winner!

You don't think it'll be Mark & Mercedes FROM Vegas on both KMXB and The Zone?

I don't see The Zone bringing in a local morning show anytime soon. I see either a CBS morning show being syndicated in, or some other syndication (Kidd Kraddick, Bob & Sheri).

Since Mark & Mercedes aren't leaving KXMB, "syndication" would make some sense!

Hope this, according to All Access job postings, answers your questions:

KZZO Full-Time Board Operator
KZZO in Sacramento is looking for a talented individual to be a full-time board operator for our new syndicated morning show launching soon.

Someone please define "talented" as used in the above context...

How much "talent" does a board-op really need?
Just say you need a bored-op (misspell intended)...

I was a board-op for a syndicated show long ago, but the pre-requisites
were next to nothing - and I DIDN'T have to make coffee...

(insert church music )

Oh God, I pray to you not to bring Kidd Kraddick and his annoying female side kick with that horrible country twang of hers to Sacramento. Please Lord I humbly beg you! No I am pleading with you! I won't be able to work in the building any longer if this happens! Lord I know you say love thy neighbor but she is too annoying to love. Please open BK's eyes to this! Thanks God. TTYL

well that explains your username caption. obviously you lacked talent.

Talent in radio means going above and beyond the call of duty. Being there 15 minutes early AND making the coffee, learning everything you can, and staying late to help out, even if it means not getting paid for that extra hour of work.

It doesn't mean just pushing buttons for a syndicated show. You're the station's beeotch. And if you do what needs to be done, and even what doesn't, you go places. You're also in control of the station, which means, if you've gone above and beyond the call of duty and memorized those lame ass operations manuals for the station, you'll be a hero when ish goes down and you're the only one who knows how to dialup the isdn to the transmitter, or you're the only one who knows how to switch out a module on the board, when the engineer is 100 miles away at another transmitter site, and can only talk you through it on the phone.

do your four and hit the door/do your 8 and hit the gate don't apply to the job unless you want to land on the beach and stay there. ESPECIALLY in this economy.

I don't believe the constant attempt to debase our fellow colleagues and others on this site. It astounds me that people are always doing that here, rather than speaking on the issue at hand, which is in this case that the Zone has had repeated attempts at morning shows, and continues to fall short by not allowing enough time for them to establish, not promoting them, or just plain blaming the am show for the failure of the station in general because of it's music choices, PD, promotion budget and implementation, etc. The Zone has continued this trend for the last few years, beginning with Shawn and Jeff, and the firing of the latter.

It's no mystery that the music and management are the problem. There was a meeting that I was in over there about 6 months ago when Steve C. said this format works in other markets. It obviously doesn't work here. The staff have all voiced their opinions that playing the middle of the road stuff instead of redefining themselves with a harder edge and getting away from the softer side is the only cure. They continue to go up against My 92, the Mix, KSSJ, which is doing them no good and will continue to fail as it has proven to do for so many years.

But I digress...

My friend djj has a resume that includes morning shows, as well as other high profile positions at various stations in California. Just because he's currently on the beach doesn't allow you the right to say he has no talent. He's a skilled and revered air talent that just happens to be unemployed right now. Get over it. And given the current state of radio I'm sure we all know at least 7 or 8 folks in the same situation, if not more.

A board op is an entry level position plain and simple, and most of us likely began there, and we all know a trained gorilla could do the tasks that a board op has at hand with little training. The fact of the matter is that the Zone is going to try yet another failing attempt to garner ratings with the same tired format by utilizing a show from another market, and only employing a board op here in a market with plenty of qualified folks that could slide into a morning show slot. Heck, they even have people in house over there that could do it. Sadly, they won't.

you'll be a hero when ish goes down

Seriously??? A hero??? Let's get serious for 5 minutes. Dude, no one cares if you know how to redial the isdn line.

Lastly, I get a lot of cr*p on this site when I crack jokes, defend others, defend myself, or state my opinions here. I've also had dear friends get on here and defend me in the past, just like I've done with my buddy j when others haven't understood my sarcastic comments, and sometimes (I'll admit weak at times) my attempts at humor. My point in all this is that we should stay on topic. And quit the back biting and degrading behavior to others that are on here that want to simply speak their minds about a business that they are passionate about, regardless whether they're working in it now or not. There's enough negativity in the climate of radio without adding to it by being a *oles to each other.

I await your comments, insults, and whatever else ya got in yer pocket...

hmmm... i think i didn't express myself very well,

A) when i made that comment about the caption, i meant it sarcastically, but definitely not in an insulting way. What i meant to address was the attitude against board ops. I see it all the time, people don't give the low man on the totum pole any respect and i guess i kinda went off on a rant. my examples weren't great, but what i was trying to get at, aww crap, i'm a total hippocrite. i'm railing against negative attitudes against others, and yet i come off as an butthole. my fault.

B) when i said hero, that's more of an expression than anything else. The point was, when you work your a$$ off, and make yourself known over an over by being there at the right place, and the right time, to push the right button, you'll get somewhere.

again, apologies for the negativity. hadn't had my cuppa mud yet, and was feeling like the crotchety old man i am.

I don't know very many people who even listen to the radio. It's just not very interesting anymore.

If these voices from Vegas is the best CBS RADIO can do it's time for the Zone in Sacramento to just turn off the transmitter and send the entire staff of the radio station home. Why bother at all what a bunch of losers running the show here in Sacramento. Or at least move Jack-FM to the 100.5 dial position. Where do they find these female voices that just cut your brain into slices like a veg-a-matic? Cut it out already CBS! Damn you people suck hiney wine. Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak......enough already.

The question was...

"Where do they find these female voices that just cut your brain into slices like a veg-a-matic?"

You find them at the reception desk! She was keeping the front desk chair warm before being tossed into the studio in a depseration move years ago.

I saw this happenning in the early 90s. Younger and Younger immature loud shrieking female voices. This wasn't the case in the 70s/80s. The Women then had young but mature nice easy or natural uptempo deliveries. Now it's yelling, valley girl, many times over the top. I do still hear some nice voices like The woman on KFBK Kitty Oneal? Other than that slim pickens.

sounds like the show is having some technical issues. heard a segment repeated in the 6:00 hour from the 5:00 hour, and they went to music mid-sentence during a segment this hour.

despite all this, mark and Mercedes seems like a good fit for the zone. i'm sure these issues are just because the zone seems to be the first station to syndicate m&m, and also maybe because i'm listening to the stream, and we all know how hinkey webstreams can be.

what do you guys think of m&m so far?

Well said Stage5! It is ego's in this biz that talk S*** about others that is pathetic. Yes, the Zone has failed because of bad management. I believe listeners tune in because they WANT to hear what we say between tunes. If the music sucks, then the station will fail no matter what talent says or does...
