New morning show?? Two words-

Bob Rivers

Aside from the fact that lots and lots of parody songs are not going to cut it in market 9, he broadcasts from the west coast (Seattle) so there'd be no way for him to do an east coast show.

The show is not "parody songs!" You only get a link to the song vault on his website.
Go to BobRivers.com and listen to a podcast before you opine-

Did. Won't work here. Just ask Bob & Tom.

Right, and run his show live in Atlanta and tape delayed in his own market. Good thinking.

What does Bob and Tom have to do with Bob Rivers???
The show would have to be local - at least strong local elements. And they would have to do the local dog and pony shows.....
I understand the arguments against other than local mornings. But Tom Joyner is one great example of non local mornings that works.
I think Bob Rivers is one of the few morning hosts today that strike that fine balance between "edgy" and "cookies & milk." And while I do agree that a morning of parody songs would burn out quickly, I think the quality of Bob River's music demonsrates a truly talented performer. This is first rate stuff - it's very well produced and actually funny.
But then.....I thought Bob and Tom were pretty good too! They used to have a 20 share up in Indie!

I actually was pointing out the insanity of it. I can't imagine that happening; though with the thinking that happens in upper management, you never know.

The model thats possible is the Premiere Rick Dees one - with generic less-time sensitive content recycled from west coast and fed out on the "network" the following day.

What is so "insane" about Rivers getting up at 3 AM to do Atlanta live? 3-6 AM Atlanta, last hour voice tracked(9-10AM)then Seattle 6-10 AM Pacific. Hour or two production - then home to pet the dog and kids.
When in Atlanta - just the opposite. 6-9 live Atlanta, 9-1 Eastern for 6-10 Pacific.
Why would that not work?

How about... because his program blows? This is the second time you've been here pimping for this geek and nobody bought it the last time either.

Pimpin' for this geek?? I wish I could collect the 15% if he DID get the gig!
Strong words coming from one who makes a living sayin' the news. Pimpin' Paris Hilton and dead babies for ratings DOES make you morally superior.
I guess you think mornings should be filled with YOUR musings.....it is "NEWS" after all. Enough of your "news department" elitism. Come and join the unwashed.......

That's right... make the thread about me. Doesn't change the fact that most of the people you've been trying to sell Bob Rivers to would just as soon he stay right where he is... the home of burned coffee beans. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm just amazed at the number of amateur program directors on these boards. Odds are, the next big thing in Atlanta will be somebody none of us expects... but the chances anyone will come in here and snag a ten share are pretty slim. Those days are pretty well over for radio.

getting up at 3 am? morelike 1:30 at least for a 3 am shift. Who says he wants that. Outside of Chris Dimino I can't think of anyone doing that much live radio in one day.

Nope.....not about you.
And your right - probably no one is going to come in and dominate-those days are past.
But WHERE is the talent for PD's to choose from? Most folks aren't interested in Bob Rivers but they ARE interested in Larry and Eric. I just don't see where Larry and Eric, or Opie and Anthony, are even in the same league as guys like Bob Rivers. Bob is a guy who is CREATIVE. These other guys say potty words until the giggles are uncontrollable.
I readily admit that my preference for programming IS the kiss of death. If I like it....it probably should not be on the radio.
But then....I listen to dead baby and Paris news mostly.
