New Move-in in Tulsa- LIVE Rush Limbaugh

I am searching FCC apps now to see who it is, but a little tower-climbing birdy told me a Muskogee area signal is upgrading to become a Tulsa market station. My guess would be KCXR or KMMY but there is another little station down that way that slips my mind. The birdy also tells me the station will be Newstalk on FM, a format Del Giorno tried in OKC 15 years ago (and failed at). The catch is this time it's LIVE Rush and LIVE Hannity, something Cox does not do, so that will be interesting.

There isn't any FM with a permit to move into Tulsa. KMMY 97.1 can't get any closer since it is 2nd adjacent to KMOD 97.5, meaning its transmitter has to be over 60+ miles away from KMOD's. KTFX 102.1 has a CP to move to 101.7 as a C3, but it won't be a Tulsa signal.

What station did DelGiorno try FM talk on?

Re: Muskogee Radio

KCXR or KMMY? Where in the world did you hear this? I love rumors!

If I remember, it was 104.9. I remember billboards around OKC saying something like "Talk Radio on FM...What A Concept".

However c3's do have the FCC window to raise their height to meet the new c3 classification. 100,000 watt kmmy at 1500 feet reaches in pretty well. If KCXR could climb, they would cover well too. They still seem to be the best bets. I know someones tower is getting taller.. still trying to find out who...

When Pat Robertson owned KNTL back in '90 Del Giorno wa shis national PD dude. They also bought some florida stations and a D.C. station to start a "Newstalk on FM" network. They had Rush lined up but last minute he formed EIB and bailed on them (so the story goes) so they aired some tired old guys instead that did not last more than a year as I recall. That station became a Christian station under Robertson shortly thereafter. I think Del Giorno wa sbased in Virginia Beach at the time....

KNTL ~1990

Does anyonme remember one afternoon guy they had on that station? His name was Bob Quessel I believe, and did his show from DC as I recall.

It was Ernie Quessel I think.... Bob was the evening guy....

I thought it was Swaggart who owned KNTL when KJIL "King Jesus Is Lord" 104.9 flipped to FM talk, though it was sold to Broadcast Equities, which may have been Robertson, shortly after the launch. From everything I heard, it was a doomed venture from the start, and no one was surprised it flipped to CCM as "The Light" about a year later. Someone told me the sales staff would often sit around and pray for divine inspiration rather than hit the streets and do its job!

KMMY 97.1 is getting a taller tower (about 250 feet), but it will still be in Eufala. It looks like it will put a slightly better signal into Ft. Smith, but it will just put a marginal signal over more of Tulsa once it happens.

Broadcast Equities was owned by Robertson, and he bought it before the flip. The sales staff was led by Steve Faulkner as I recall, and except for a few holdovers from Swggart was all mainstream people. I think the doom was in not landing Rush to anchor the network.
