8041393 Canada Incorporated received approval today to launch a new Multilingual station in Scarborough, Ontario at 102.7 with 472 watts (1,200 watts maximum ERP). Antenna height will be 72.6 metres (EHAAT)
The new station will broadcast to a minimum of 18 cultural groups in a minimum of 9 different languages (primarily south and east Asian) and will be branded as "EAST FM".
Consequently applications by MBC, World Band Media, Intercity Broadcasting, CIWS, and CJVF for new stations or power boosts on 102.7 have been denied.
The decision also means that the low power unprotected CJVF 102.7 in Scarborough will have to find a new frequency to operate on. The future of CIWS in Stouffville operating on 102.7 could also be in doubt if a technical solution to share the frequency with the new East FM cannot be found.
