I've only heard three of these. Fergie sounds like a hit, 4 in the Morning sounds like Cool, and the Paul Wall track probably wouldn't work on CHR.

I love how 9 out of 10 of these are rhythmic. (sarcasm). Seriously, rap polutes the airwaves on CHR. We NEED MORE ROCK ON CHR!!!!!!!!SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, YOU need more Rock on CHR doesn't mean the avergage listener does as well. Most of the songs he listed aren't even Rap

Stop posting clueless statements like "Rap polutes the airwaves on CHR". If most female CHR listeners felt that was the case things would be different, but they don't now do they?

According to Billboard magazine, sales of Rap albums dropped a whopping 33% in the first quarter of 2007 (as compared to the first quarter of 2006), yet CHR/Pop stations like Z-100 in New York City still insist on playing it. I have to agree that CHR stations should lean more Rock than Rap.

I'm sorry, but I'm siding with CHRles. HOW can you say CHR's should lean more to rock? Take a look at the Hot 100, a good majority are rhythmic records. CHR has nothing to do with album sales, and it never has. It is all about what is on the Hot 100 and what is popular that radio stations will add. Rap and hip-hop is popular, that is why radio stations are playing it. Plain and simple. If Mims is the most downloaded track on iTunes, radio stations will get at it. Hate to say it, but most of the rock tracks don't even leave much of an impression. The only one that did in the past few years is Papa Roach's "Scars", which is still holding well as a recurrent on even some rhythmic-leaning stations.

And not all but one of those are rhythmic. Eric Prydz is a dance/techno artist. 4 in the Morning is more hot AC if anything. And although Fergie is a rhythmic artist, that track is far from hip-hop--I can actually see it as a mild hot AC hit.

Perhaps I should've added that the 33% drop in Hip Hop/Rap album sales in the first quarter comes after a 21% drop in sales for all of 2006. You might be the last person to assert that Rap and Hip Hop are still broadly popular. I agree that Hip Hop will continue to supply songs that will garner heavy rotations on most CHR/Pop stations, but Hip Hop/Rap as a genre is inexorably headed south in both sales and popularity.

Sorry, but a 33% drop of album sales means nothing when it comes to the SONGS on the charts. You are not getting it--the audience could really careless how good an album is. If a hip-hop song is catchy it is a hit. Mims's album got terrible album sales, but the song "This Is Why I'm Hot" was a HUGE hit. It is how well songs do with your audience, not the albums. And as far as bringing back different genres, the format is called Contemporary Hit Radio. "Hit" is in there. Meaning CHR plays the hits and what is popular at the moment. Rhythmic has been taking over the singles charts at least since 2002. I'm not saying I like any of the stuff on there, but the station isn't programmed for me, either.
