New Music, New Graphics for NBC10

old news opens for NBC10

Has anyone noticed that WJAR is still using the old news opens that say "News Channel 10?" I thought they changed the branding to "NBC 10 News" a couple of months ago (to coincide with WCAU)? Notice how that piece of important information about WJAR seems to fall through the cracks around here. If any of the two other stations did something like that (aired old news opens or graphics), all hell would break loose. All the regulars here who like to criticize certain stations would come out of the woodwork. More favoritism towards NBC 10 Snooze. If they do something wrong, it gets ignored. If the other two stations do something wrong, we would never hear the end of it.

Well it must of just been a slow transition. As of today there is a brand new open with new music. There is no longer any mention of News Channel 10. I don't like the new music. It's very generic sounding with no real melody. In my opinion it's very FLAT. I now give NBC10 the award for worst News Music in the market.

Re: old news opens for NBC10

I made sure to catch the beginning of Channel 10's 11:00 news tonight to sample the new graphics and music. The graphics are just as flashy as WPRI. My opinion is they did that in response to WPRI's flashyness. Their promos are also more "in your face" and flashy. The music is one of Frank Gari's NBC O&O packages. I believe WTVJ in Miami used the same music at one time or still does. I just notice that WJAR is doing more and more of the same things WPRI does...the new graphics and music is just icing on the cake. I'm surprised WJAR didn't wait till the beginning of the November sweeps period to debut the new graphics and music. Let's see if WJAR can use the same "NBC 10 News" moniker in ALL newscasts, and not just the 11:00 as they have been for the past couple of months. I really don't like the new music and graphics on Channel 10. I don't think it suits them very well. It's just not really WJARish, so to speak.

While thats a nice thought and in most cases would make sense. It actually isn't the case this time. NBC has updated the graphics/music packages at a lot of their stations to bring them up to the level with network. If you notice the Today show has new graphics as well. I can guarentee you that the Today show didn't update their graphics to be at the level of WPRI in Providence.

And I still think WPRI is the best in the market overall.

I agree Shawn. I don't think it fits them well either. I expected so much better.

Tex: I did notice the Today show has updated graphics as well. I would think the music & graphics update would be on all NBC O&O's. I realize the Network didn't even consider the look of WPRI, but I was just comparing the two stations in Providence...since they both have the "flashy" look now...also since WPRI was the first out of the two to adopt that look.

Shawn.... could you please explain to me what is Flashy about WJAR's New look? I'm not finding it flashy at all. As a matter of fact I think it's less flashy than ever. I'm finding it very plain and boring.

I wish I could get WJAR where I live. It just gets HAMMERED by WTNH-DT on 10, so its a absolute no go for me. I'd love to see the new package.

I do get WPRI during summer tropo (and regularly during the year too in varying levels).
