New Nashville Numbers

12+ Holidaze addition shows that MIX is insanely kicking everyones @$$. WSM-FM is a dud and RLT, which I have to admit just seems unfocused now, is pathetic. RQQ --- my God. It's a 50k signal. I just don't get it. Looks like country is almost at 1/2 the total numbers that the format was at a decade ago. It's time for someone to go.

Once again, repeat after me... RQQ will never do anything until they get rid of Bob & Tom. The show is repulsive to many Nashvillians, and the following it did have has grown up or moved out of their parents' basement. The younger generation just sees them as old ****s.

Yeah, there needs to be a couple of dramatic flips to shake up the market. But what do you change to that would be better? Sure, we have our pet preferences, but what would make Nashville want to jump on a bandwagon? It's like replacing Jeff Fisher — sure the Titans may need a change, but who do you get that realistically could do better? Yes, one would think Cumulus might want to go after the Mix audience... but realistically, what can you do to get all of those women to change their dials?

Someone needs to target the AC market for those UNDER 45. Not the River. Not Mix. Something in between teeny pop and celine dion. Not to beat a dead horse, but Star 97 was headed in the right direction. I used to hear that station everywhere when it came out. I wish there was someone other than Cumulus with a frequency to play with. AC didn't work on 102 because it's an office format and offices can't pick up WPRT (and stupid branding). I like KDF and don't see it going anywhere. Classic Hits 106(.7) and Star 97? (AC needs the stronger stick) We desperately need AC on a strong signal. UGH, I'm tired of trying to have to pull in Clarksville and Hopkinsville AC stations or streaming DC's "Fresh FM" http://player.radio.com/player/RadioPlayer.php?version=1.2.10725&station=55. I think WPRT should aim more toward 101 and less toward the River. There's a hip/hop/rap/party void that doesn't include Ke$ha and Bieber in the format. (Side note: check out those Fish #'s).

CC, SC, and Citadel won't change anything. 93.7/94.1 and 100.1 are broadcasting their respective religions and won't change anything. That pretty much leaves Cumulus to do something.

Sounds like a good idea to develop Mix for the under 45 crowd, but can you really get the women under 45 to tune in? What could you give them in addition to music to ensure it?

Each hour sponsored by a different day spa? Ha, I realize that's a majority female demo, but there's enough male listeners that think Mix is to sappy and Jack is too repetitive and annoying in time. I'm currently streaming WIAD and am hearing things that fall into a gap here. When in DC with my girlfriend, WIAD (Fresh FM) was the first time we ever agreed on a station. Am I the only guy that feels lost in Nashville radio? Girl branding - Mix, 102, 106, ~Fish. Guys: Jack, Rock, Buzz, Zone (not a fan of any). Country and RQQ seem to be the only non-genders, other than 92, 101, and 100.

I've been doing that a lot lately, too, but I live west of Nashville, and can usually pick up Hopkinsville AC (98.7) fairly well, although for the last couple of days, that has not been the case. Have they lowered their power? I really enjoyed "Streakin' through the '70s" on that station; now they've replaced it with "Saturday Night Rewind," which includes more '80s music (about a 50/50 mix of '70s and '80s). Not as cool as "Streakin' through the '70s," but still better than a Delilah rerun, which is what you will find on 92.9 on Saturday nights.

*sigh* Most of us are in demographics without a format. :'(

I know nobody wants to hear about oldies because they were done so poorly before but I had access to some interesting data from XM the other day.
The most listened to channel by younger baby boomers on XM is the 60s music station and then the 70s

Now before you say "nobody cares about those old fart baby boomers" remember to many agencies 35-55 is the new 25-34...why?
cause 25-34 year olds go pay check to pay check and can't buy everything they want...advertisers are realizing they've been missing out on a key category.

But the point here is, a lot of folks can't get from radio what they really want and are willing to pay XM to give them a station nobody is carrying.

Another plug for Scott Shannons True Oldies Channel.

country is down because the only artists "selling?" are teenagers, american idlers/bonaroobees and cookie cutter ballcap baritones...won't be long before Wal-Mart quits selling cd's too...oh and when was the last time you saw somebody buying a portable radio
