New NBC30 Website/NBCconnecticut.com

What happened to NBC30's website?? ??? I assumed that the NBCconnecticut.com website would just be an additional resource to the actual channel 30 site. There's not one sign of the NBC30 logo on the site, it took me forever to find anything. I find it hard to believe that the station would switch to a web format such as this one that just debuted.

My big question is, does anyone actually like it.

In my opinion, this was a wrong move. It would have been better if this site and the real NBC30 site were seperate.

I actually thought the old nbc30.com website was a waste of bandwidth. It was just like any other NBC O&O site. To this end, the new site may not be much better, but it does seem to be more local.

I just went to the new site.. not too bad, I see the logo in the upper left hand corner and its not hard at all to navigate and not enarly as cluttered as the old site.

nbchartford.com would have been a much easier and memorable URL.

But WVIT doesnt serve just Hartford, they do a fairly good job of serving other portions of the state.... NBCHartford.com would imply they only cover/care about Hartford and NBCConnecticut.com kinda gives the impression they're "statewide" so to speak.

Yeah, it's not exactly the hub of a sprawling metro area. NBCPhiladelphia.com, etc. make sense, but when you combine the smaller Hartford, New Haven, New London, Bridgeport metro areas, you pretty much have the whole state sewn up.

Regardless of that, I don't see many people typing in "nbcconnecticut.com" very often. It's far too long and awkward. nbchartford is still a better URL. Of course people will probably continue just typing in courant.com or wfsb.com.

Well, I guess they could have at least abbreviated it!

Yeah. It could be nbcct.com. I still don't see what is wrong with NBC30.com. At least it not like FOX myfoxny.com.

Whats wrong with myfoxny.com?

They got the work my in it for one. FOXNY.com wouldn't be bad for just plan old fox5ny.com would be fine too. We already have Myspace, My Computer, My Documents.

NBCPhiladelphia.com, etc. make sense,

Not really. The Philadelphia channels cover most of southern NJ, northern Delaware, and suburban PA in addition to just Philly. So NBCPhiladelphia really doesn't make any more sense than NBCHartford.

Yes it does, because if you live in South Jersey, Northern Delaware or Southeast PA, you know you're in the Philadelphia metro area. Metro Philly is huge.

People in Bridgeport or New London do not consider themselves in the Hartford metro area, and nor are they. Metro Hartford is tiny in comparison.

Hartford is not a "tiny" city. Also, most people are aware they are watching a station from Hartford even if they are on the shoreline. On the Today Show, they often call NBC30 "our affiliate in Hartford" (despite WVIT being licenced to New Britain). I think it's a shame NBC30 would buck the trend among NBC stations and use the state name, even if it makes for an awkward URL. To me it sounds like they are throwing Hartford under the bus, they don't want to associate themselves with the negative press Hartford has had recently.

I believe Hartford is now the THIRD largest city in the State now behind Bridgeport and New Haven. It is not necessarily the center of the population it serves.

If you knew anything about Connecticut, you'd know that town borders were set up in the 18th century in this state and that New Haven and Bridgeport are not nearly as large or influential as Hartford. Regardless of that, nbcnewhaven.com or nbcbridgeport.com would not make any sense for a URL at all...

Uhm, I've lived here 15 years, so I know plenty thank you. I'm saying that NBC 30 serves ALL of these cities, hence most of CT.

No need to get nasty something so petty.

Technically it does not serve Bridgeport, actually. Also, you must have an extremely exaggerated definition of the word "nasty".

Well, you're wrong about both things and I'm not wasting my time with you anymore.
