new NCE opening on 93.3 in the Binghamton market

The FCC will soon be accepting applications for a new full-power non-commercial station on 93.3 licensed to Susquehanna, PA.

For the sake of speculation, who might be awarded this frequency?

I'm sure WPEL would love to have an FM station to augment/replace their AM daytime facility. (They already have a translator in place on the channel across the border in NY, I believe). The fact that they already own two stations in the area may pose a problem, though.

But this is just a Class A allocation, right? I'd be skeptical that a Class A FM licensed to Susquehanna would really put a usable signal into Binghamton, would it? Wouldn't the terrain be too problematic?

WCDW is a Susquehanna station but has its tower in West Windsor. The 93.3 is more limited because of 93.3 in Muncy, PA (a B1) and 93.1 in Syracuse. A so-so Binghamton signal. Likely a dozen organizations will apply for this.

So much for the dream of a rhythmic CHR in this market, something that Wild should play 24/7 instead of afterhours.

The management at Wild is very much afraid of being Rhythmic. They might beat the Hawk in the ratings and they wouldn't know what to do. Rhythmic would kick butt in this town these days.

Wouldn't make a difference to management, Hawk & Wild are owned by the same company. Right now, Hawk is #1, and Wild is #2 in the ratings. The company who should do something is Equinox, but they rather invest in unneccessary transmitters than to put the money in their product. I say Q should flip to Rhythmic, since they are on the bottom of the list, beand themselves "Q107 Jamz" or something, and then their transmitters are worth to have.

I actually wish that Cool and Q would do something in this market and try to take some from the big guys but I get the impression, they just don't care. Cool was a pretty good station and now it's sounds like Mix 103. I have to think listeners are leaving Cool. Q...I still haven't figured out the format but maybe I don't know formats. Both stations could be something but it seems, they just don't care about the product.

It's funny how a thread about 93.3 non commercial turns into A N OT H E R equinox bashing thread... It's entertaining needless to say... You should sell tickets for that hilarity...

I am not bashing anyone or anything, I'm saying truth. Have you looked at your numbers lately? I'm just suggesting maybe this market could go for something new, that's all.

I didn't intend to bash, yet it might have sounded that way and I apologize for it. I actually feel bad for you Shimes. I know your hands are tied and I am sure you want the stations to succeed. I really want them to succeed as to make the playing field a little more competitive.

LOL -- sounds good to me! As the "youngin" in the Equinox roster - I'd crank things up in a heartbeat if given the reigns!

*steals shimes music whip*

On Cascada - go Guru Josh - move David Guetta - on Beyonce and GaGa - pump it Jay Sean and Pitbull we want you! LOL

(okay so it was a better santa claus moment in my head didn't turn out so funny in 12 seconds... )

again this is a thread about 93.3...not equinox.. and while you all have the answers about who should do what... it's all hypothetical.

Give up a transmitter or two....or five, and make room for someone who is hungry enough to do so 8)

If we gave up a transmitter or two people in specific "in-town" areas wouldn't be able to hear us in their houses or businesses at all... I can't get the stations in my eastside place without a translater because Windy and Hospital Hills block the weaker Windsor originated signals from penetrating into my house. Each translator signal is designed to hit a specific shadowed area with a closer more direct signal.

Yes. It is fascinating how a thread can so easily be "hijacked" and turned into a completely different discussion. Unfortunate, really.

I wouldn't get my hopes up as far as anything "new" or "different" appearing on this new station when/if it gets built. It will almost certailny be another religious broadcaster. Those organizations are the only ones these days that have the money necessary to construct a new full power non-commercial facility, and keep it afloat.
