New News Director For WTNH

Erik Schrader, who has been news director at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre powerhouse WNEP, will be taking on the same duties at WTNH (and WCTX) effective September 19.

Just to give you an idea of the news product in the Scranton market: WNEP's newscast is so popular, it literally forced a competing station, WYOU, to shelve local newscasts not too long ago. Let's hope that this hire doesn't result in WTNH ceasing its news operation.

While not directly related to this, I do have a conversation point about WTNH I have noticed lately.

Has anyone else noticed that a good portion of WTNH's recorded field reports are now in full HD, instead of widescreen SD? I've noticed this after watching their evening newscast on Labor Day. I'm quite surprised, but it is nice to see HD outside of the studio shots. The live field reports and occasional recorded reports are still widescreen SD, but it's certainly a start.

I suppose it pays not to be the last major network affiliate to go HD in New England, or at least the Southern half of New England... You do not let WLNE beat you to the punch on anything. ::)
