New Oakland A's #2 Guy

[EDITED BY DJ -- SEE UPDATED POST LOWER IN THIS THREAD]

The biggest surprise for me: it's not Steve Bitker, which lends credence to the A's not being on an Infinity station (or pair of stations) this season. If it will be KNTS/1220, they had better do something FAST to get the boost to 50,000 watts, because the station can't be heard over here in the Tri-Valley at all.

Well, I do remember the Astros cutting loose two guys after this last season. It should've been Bitker, though...I'm sad for him. He deserved it

Milo Hamilton, the Astros' #1 voice (forever), asked to cut back on the number of games he would call in 2006 -- it won't be him. Alan Ashby was let go by the Astros, but he was more of a color/analyst guy on their broadcasts, a position already covered by Ray Fosse on the A's radiocasts.

UPDATE! A's add Vince Cotroneo to radio team

A's add Vince Cotroneo to radio team

vince-cotroneo_2002.jpg
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms with Vince Cotroneo on a two-year contract to broadcast games over the A's Radio Network through the 2007 season.

Prior to joining the A's, Cotroneo spent six seasons (1998-2003) as an announcer on the Texas Rangers broadcasts, where he partnered with Eric Nadel on the Rangers Radio Network. He also worked a handful of games on the television side during the 2002 season.

Cotroneo joined the Rangers broadcast team in 1998 after spending seven seasons (1991-97) with the Houston Astros, where he handled color analysis on road radio games and Fox Sports Southwest television.

...Does that mean he ain't worked since leaving the Rangers in 2003?

ADD: A's add Vince Cotroneo to radio team

A great quote about Cotroneo from TheFatGuy.com from September 2003, when the A's new #2 guy was still with the Rangers:
<blockquote>
Like all petty fans, I took a while to warm up to Vince Cotroneo, but I did, and I’ve grown to really enjoy listening to him and Eric Nadel. Both Eric and Vince have passion — a passion for baseball. Good baseball. Too bad they haven’t witnessed a whole hell of a lot.

It’s VERY hard to get passionate about a team that is out of the running for the wild card spot in June. I really thought that both of the broadcast teams had put the best possible lipstick available on this particular pig of a baseball team...

Hey BRDJ -- what's up with your blog?

Frankly, Bitker is just not a very good play by play man.
