New Old TV on DVD

Pacific Entertainment has just come out with some interesting packages of old movies and tv shows. There are at least 4 bundles of old movies and shows on 2 double-sided DVDs each, and each runs about 18 hours. Check them out.

Check them out where?

Which shows?

What's the title of the collection?

Not even enough here to do a Google search? Some specifics, please.

If this is just more low-quality DVDs with poor quality copies of off-copyright shows, no thanks.

I got mine from Target for 5 bucks a pop;. I found 4 titles: 25 Horrar Classics, 25 Mystery Classics 25 Gangster Classics and 25 Acction Classics. There might bee more. As for doing a google search, Mr. Parker, I would think that if you tried Pacific Entertainment, you would get plenty of hitts. As for the video compression, That's probably a good point, but as I am totally blind, I don't care how they look as long as they sound good and they doo. So I just spent about $20.00 for about 3 days of "Good television as aposed to the crap from the 70s that most on this board call "Classic TV.
Just so you know, all if the reviews I've read about thees packages, all say that they do look very good and some say that they look better than the Millcreak ones. As for me, I think they sound good, and with the VLC media player, installed on my PC, I can "Watch" (listen) to them without going through the menus, as the VLC media player has a feature that allows me to disable them, so I can put one in, and pretend that I am watching, say, WJBK_TV in 1957.

@Michael....

Thanks for the additional info. The lead to Target helps. I'll swing by and take a look.

Google yields a bunch of results for "Pacific Entertainment," starting with a San Francisco company that provides DJs for parties. Amazon does have the titles you listed, though. They don't provide much of a description but from the image of the cover, it looks like old movies and not old TV shows. Maybe you can clarify what's included.

WJBK? Is Jack LeGoff included on these DVDs? Or Sagebrush Shorty?

Man, how I wish!
I posted elsewhere on this board, I forget what I called it, a suggestion about a set of DVDs that would make up an entire broadcast day of TV from sign-on to sign-off. It would include the meditation, Station IDs local kids shows movies and everything else. It would ron about 18 hours. Hmmmmmmm! 2 2 sided DVD's.
As for them their Pacific entertainment ones, the packaging doesn't spesify Movies, or Television, but when you watch, you find that you get shows like Highway Patrol, and Public Defender, and such, along with some really good movies, all be they in the public domain.
Have a look.

That would be a great idea. A full broadcast day from early TV. I wonder if anybody ever preserved a full day on the air back in 50s. WJSV, Washington (later WTOP, now WFED) archived a full broadcast day in 1939 and the recordings are available to collectors. It's a great insight into old time radio (not just the few outstanding examples people want to remember). It would be great to have something like that for early TV.

I actually looked for an old TV broadcast day that would be like the old 1939 WJSV radio broadcast. I found nothing. I'm thinking a day of television could be simulated with station IDs News broadcasts in the stile, and old kinis and old movies. The local programs like cooking shows and the like could be simulated too. Off topic, but I posted something about this elsewhere on this board as I say, but I don't remember what the subject of the post was. I only have 80 or so posts on this board, if anyone has any further thoughts, perhaps you could find the old post and continue, or I can start a new topic.

During their 50th anniversary Denver's KWGN channel 2 did make a mention that they had filmed and taped an entire broadcast day back in 1968..March 15th, 1968 to be exact as they had shown clips from that day for their special.. Sadly KWGN never did release this to the public and condsidering their merger a few year back to KDVR FOX 31...not sure if any of this is still in their vaults.

They could probably come close. For the network shows, they might be able to get actual episodes aired on that date - or at least come close (substitute another episode within a few weeks). They could probably get the actual commercials from ad agencies, too, or at least commercials for the same products from the same period. I'd especially like to see shows which used integrated commercials featuring the show's performers. For local shows, again they might not have the actual episode but it should be possible to get a kine of the show from the approximate time period. I wonder if any universities or colleges every archived sample broadcast days.

The full broadcast day of WJSV can be streamed at archive.gov

Since a full broadcast day from the 50's would likely have had to be kinescoped, the sheer
cost of putting 18+ hours on film likely scuttled the idea.
