New oldie format coming to 98.9

I like the new sound as well. It's no better than True Oldies but no worse IMO. I was expecting a mess, but it's not so far. Even the older songs played seem to be more upbeat than many were expecting.

I was stuck in my wife's car for a while today, so I had to listen to her choice of station. I'll be honest. Listening to it as an avid music listener, I couldn't tell what all the hubbub was about. The two formats are about as different as fountain Coke and Pepsi from a fast food restaurant.

Ok, I've been listening on and off the past few days, and its ok. I still think TOC sounded more polished with a slightly better song mix. The classic Hits format would have been a better move, but this will do. My main complaint is that the station does nothing to promote itself. Hell, the banner still reads True oldies channel and the now playing header is Walk Song Stunt!!!!!! To me, it looks like they are just filling the signal space with whatever they can find for little to no money outlay. Also if this format is a national thing, why no web page? There is a (true oldies)Facebook page(I think) but it looks more like a private group page with no way to comment. not very inviting and very second rate.

Now after a few days, I think if they'd let go of the 50's and early 60's they WOULD BE BETTER than True Oldies. They play a lot of "feel good" music. Hey wasn't that brand part of a past oldies station here?

"Walk Song Stunt" is what they were playing before they flipped to The Walk. Odd that they have never updated that.

I wish they would get rid of the dead air between songs, first and foremost.

I like their mix of 70s. I do hope they don't get stuck in the "lots of British Invasion and Motown, but NO 70s disco or new wave" rut that many oldies stations get stuck in.

Also, if they are going to bother playing 80s, don't just stick with songs with a "throwback" sound.

Now, if they wanted to keep me as a listener, then they'd play lots of British Invasion and Motown, but no 70's disco, because back in the 70's, I ABSOLUTELY HATED DISCO WITH A PASSION! Disco was the absolute worst thing about the 70's which, considering how bad that decade was, is really saying something.

That's my point. Cumulus apparently does not want to spend much time on this station. If they wanted to promote it correctly, little things like that would be fixed. also if you Google Oldies98.9 you get this:

Oldies 98.9 Atlanta
www.989thewalk.com

if YOU re going to do something, do it completely. It just shows that they do not care about this format.

Music wise, its growing on me. I want to hear a wide variety from 1960's up to mid 80's. British, Motown, Carpenters,Striesand, Elton, BTO, Abba, Disco, Grease, Little River Band, PAblo Cruise, Toto, Etc!

Anyone else notice their facebook page is down? Could they be reading this board and decided they best clean up the site some OR could another change be coming.

NOPE: False Alarm! Why can't we delete these messages when we make a boo boo!
