New oldies FM out of Southaven?

I heard some rumblings about an oldies FM about to fire up out of North Miss.
Any truth to it? I also heard about some airstaff, too.
Am I the last to hear, one of the early ones to hear, or have I been misled?
What type of oldies station would work in the Memphis market that hasn't been tried? Are there any left?

No truth to any new signals of note coming on. No CPs pending.

It may be that 95.3/Hernando is about to staff up. Who knows? They are as close to Southaven as anyone.

This almost has to be First Broadcasting trying to put yet another new spin on WVIM (95.3) out of Coldwater/Hernando. Maybe not, but I doubt it. They've been running some ads lately in the trades that are somewhat misleading for various positions at their "new" oldies station in the Memphis market, which is actually only new as of about two years ago, when they bought it and immediately started trying to resell it. Highly unlikely that it's anything more than that.

So....looks like an Old/New station maybe?
Has 95.3 got any signal to Memphis? How strong a transmitter?
A guy I know is reported to be lined up to do mornings on whatever it is.

KInda off topic for this thread, but is there a link to the FCC or a searchable database that has pending CPs?

That station has been around for years. And, there have always been hushed rumors -- all of which untrue -- that 95.3 was going to "move into Memphis."

Now, I am never going to say that any station can't move/upgrade (it's all about money to move the chess pieces around the board), BUT WVIM is about as tough a case as you will ever find. In fact, as it sits, it is actually short-spaced with Brownsville, TN (albeit just barely).

It's signal is far short of competetive in Memphis. Coverage map shows its 60 dBu (1 mV/m) contour only getting as far north as Graceland. By the time one gets as far as Arlington, its 40 dBu is overlapping the 40 dBu of Brownsville.

As far a strength, it's a typical class A with a ~9 mile City Grade. It's 3400 watts @ 134m.

There is certianly a niche for that station, but it would likely be as a DeSoto County-centered station. There is money to be made down there. But, as a Memphis station? Ain't gonna happen. At least, not without some big changes.

i keep waiting to see if first does anyone the stuff they have done in dallas with a couple of the fm's they had out there

they were involved in some major moves that actually put both farther from dallas but allowed a rimshot on 106.7 at 2000ft far north of the city to come to life

I read where John Roberts is now the VP of programming for First. If he has anything to do with the oldies station in DeSoto county it doesn't stand a chance. Look what he did with WOTO in Memphis and it had a better signal.

don't worry, they've already messed over two people there.

as for the southaven rumor, all they did was move the station over by the southaven malco. better location but not a better signal.
