New Omnia6 presets!

Hello, gang!

I had a blast at the Audio Processing Freak day over in The Netherlands last Sunday, and while I was there, I introduced a new series of Omnia 6ex / 6exi presets on my website. I call these my Version 2 presets for the Omnia6. These are based on the sound I was able to achieve in my new version 2 Omnia. One presets.

The original CGSmooth presets for the Omnia6 processors were not built for loudness. Some had decent loudness, but generally speaking, the factory presets were louder. The point behind those were to emphasize a level of clarity that you can achieve when the processor was tuned to be transparent.

With the introduction of the version 2 Omnia. One presets, I was able to tune the Omnia processors to maintain this level of clarity while providing loudness on-par with the normal factory presets.

Now the version 2 presets have come to the Omnia 6ex / 6exi processor line. There are 5 presets up on my site now, more to come in the next week or so. I will have another round of presets for another Omnia processor variant ready by NAB show time...stay tuned!

New Version 2 presets for the Omnia 6 available right now:

CGAC

This is a general AC / Soft Rock preset which provides a nice balanced open sound, and gives nice dial presence for the given level of openess.

Great for AC, Soft AC, and punchier (more aggressive) Smooth Jazz type formats.

CGBigCHR

This preset is modified from the CGCHR preset. There is more limiter action dialed in for a more "compressed" sound for those looking for that effect.
Great for aggressive AC & Hot AC's, "exciting" CHR and Rythmic formats.

CGCHR

This preset is great for Hot AC / AC / CHR / Top 40 and many rythmic and R&B formats.
What you get with CGCHR is "nice open punch"Clean bass, and clear highs. Give it a shot!

CGCountry

CG Country is (obviusly) tweaked around the country music format. You may also find it handy for "laid back" Contemporary Christian formats too.

CGRockNRoll

The CGRockNRoll preset is a general rock preset that can be easily manipulated to provide the effect you are looking for.

By default, it is tuned around Classic Rock / Active Rock type formats. Use more limiter action (drive) to provide more "squish" if you desire that. To do that, turnup the levels on the "Limiter Crossover" block.

You can find the presets here:

Enjoy!

It was great having you over and showing us your O6 and One presets. I'm sure more are using the O6 and One than they were letting go. ;)

Do you, or somebody else have an audio file with an example of the CGMighty80's preset for Omnia One. I read that many people on the soundprocessingsday were very enthusiastic about this preset. Also the not so Omnia minded people ;)

I'll post a sample for you, but be aware as I've been telling people that the shootout on the processing day was pretty much awful. Good thing people like Frank F. were NOT there because it was far from any kind of scientific comparing. Nonetheless an audio sample can give you a rough idea of the sound texture this preset develops.
You can get it here
Conditions of this non scientific setup ;) when making this sample are as follows:
- M-Audio 192 digital out (48Khz)
- Omnia aes in
- Original GCMighty80's preset and 50uS pre- and de-emphasis
- Omnia aes out
- M-Audio Digital in (48Khz)
- Recorded with Sound Forge, normalized to -2db and saved as linear wav file.

Enjoy!

Some folks were quite excited to hear it. If you find yourself chaining a bunch of processors together to try to get that retro over the top compression effect, then this preset is for you!

I plan on finishing a version for the Omnia6, and posting it to my site sometime this weekend.

I see F Mister is on it for you. You should be able to get an idea from his clip....

Wow! Sounds very good. Thanks for the file to give an idea how this preset sounds.

Glad you like it!

I forgot that the genesis of that preset spawned from what I was hearing over the airwaves in Holland last year. My thought was that it sounded very "80's US top 40" as far as the processing style goes.

Some of you even caught me in the Omnia booth at IBC playing around with the idea on one of the processors. hehe.

Anyway, the CGMighty80s preset for the Omnia6EX / EXi was posted on my site over the weekend.

Have fun!

There is a station in Holland who sounds very 80's at the moment. It's Q Music. They using an old Optimod 8200 but I think with more equipment to create that sound.

Q-Music's processing sure is unique. Dense, loud and extreme wide stereo image with a really dirty edge. It's way over the top but I like it from a processing enthusiast point of view. It amazes me that they have and maintain a decent rating.
