New On WMMS...

...Comes a syndicated rock show known as Sixx Sense, and its hosted by Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx along with Kerri Kasem (yes, the daughter of Casey Kasem). He's on WMMS from 7pm until Midnight. Sixx, who replaces The Big Rig, is also heard on WRQK in Canton at the same time. From what I heard, Sixx isn't too bad, though I liked Big Rig. I think WMMS wants to boost their listenership in the non-drive time parts. Plus, I don't think they'd want to boot Maria since she has a following.

It's kind of a talk show that plays some rock.

Which encapsulizes the overall man-cave motif that is the modern day WMMS.

I think Big Rig is good too. The concept of a Rock show that does a good amount of talk, or a Talk show that plays a good amount of Rock sounds intriguing. It sort of flys in the face of conventional wisdom of doing one or the other, however.

Michael Stanley is not a rock star... never was.

Don't tell the owners of WNCX over the years who have paided him well.

Anyone who sells out Blosom IS a rock star!

Strictly a local act. Ask anyone more than 100 miles from Cleveland who Michael Stanley is and you'll get a blank stare.

Micheal's father (the late Stan Gee) was a deejay on WGAR/1220 back in the late 60s/early 70s, so it always seemed natural that he would get into the radio biz sooner or later. Ironically, he was trained by WMMS to be a host in the mid 80s, for an opening that never happened... which came to his benefit when WNCX came calling. Micheal also benefited from hosting WJW/8's local incarnation of "PM Magazine" back in the late 80s.

But for all intents and purposes, he never achieved lasting mainstream success as a recording artist. Most people today see him as a radio host who happens to host local music concerts on the side.

Nathan,

Good history and perspective on Michael Stanley.

His dad was radio sales guy too. His dad's experience helped young Michael get rolling in his show business career. I think it should be said that Michael Stanley's offer to do TV, and his working on radio, are a direct result of his popularity ( perceived or real ) as a performing artist. He did have incredible success in the Cleveland area. He's still receiving royalty checks
for other bands playing music he wrote like My Town ( a country radio hit! ).

While it is common to hear the " Michael never made it nationally " rap, there is no denying his talent and abilities as a band leader and songwriter.

He's dull as heck on radio, about as exciting as watching paint dry, but CBS keeps re-upping his deal. He will tell you how fortunate he is to maintain the radio gig.
Michael is a gentleman and a genuine good guy.~ 8)
