New Operations Director at WRKO

From All Access (8/29):

ALL ACCESS confirms that ENTERCOM Talk WRKO-A/BOSTON has hired veteran talk programmer and manager BRIAN WHITTEMORE as its new Operations Director. WHITTEMORE, most recently head of his own BRIAN WHITTEMORE PRODUCTIONS (from which he is taking a leave of absence to join 'RKO), has served as Dir. of News and Programming at WBZ-A/BOSTON and VP/GM at KDKA-A/PITTSBURGH and WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS as well as News Director at WGY-A/ALBANY.

Sounds like a good choice.

Pretty big questions about his programming judgement and track record.

Re: A Question.....

OUCH !!! If true expect the worst. I thought there was a Brian Whittimore at the old WEEI News Station 590 AM. Same person?

No. Brian was at WBZ at that point, I think, but as ND, not PD.

Brian was, however, PD by the time David took ill (the first time), and was unstinting in his support for Bruds.

Take your cheap shots elsewhere. Sorry.
______________

Brian was never at WEEI. He's a native upstate New Yorker (Oneonta area), and his career took him to WDOS, WVOS, WVOX, then to WTLB in Utica in the 70s, WGY Schenectady (news director) in the 80s, WHDH (ND/morning news anchor) for a few years in the late 80s, and then to WBZ as ND and then PD. He left in '96 to go to KDKA Pittsburgh as GM, then went to WCCO Minneapolis as GM. That job was eliminated a couple of years back, and he was under the radar for a while before resurfacing just now at WRKO.
______________

Re: A Question.....

I maybe wrong...hard as that might be to believe ;-)... but on reflection I think there was a reporter named Brian Whittimore at WEEI -The CBS News Station 590 - who was killed in a traffic copter crash in Quincy around 1967 or 1968.

If you're going to be slamming people, at least have your effin' BS
right...

When Brudnoy got cut(in '90?) David Bernstein was PD, Mary Ann Jennings was
ND and the guy who made the call was John Irwin, the GM. Recession hit Westinghouse hard and they were was cutting budgets eveywhere from
military factories to media holdings. Brudnoy's contract was up and
Irwin chose not to renew it and Bernstein found the cheap replacement
with syndication. It was that simple. Jennings left to go to WTOP in the fall
and Whittemore didn't get there until November or December and
Brudnoy was already back there for months. Irwin who no one seemd to like
anymore quit a year later. Bernstein jumped to WRKO/WHDH at some point
in '92 or '93.

Now, back to your mudslinging rants and stupid BS....

Chip Whitmore and pilot Red Bank were killed in a WEEI copter crash in
the 70s. Crashed into an apartment building in Quincy. (research from

Thank you. I knew the names were similar. I think that site is now part of the Crowne Colony Complex in West Quincy which includes the Patriot Ledger and a Marriott hotel as well as many office buildings.

Sad chapter in Boston radio history.

I think the accident was in the late 60's but maybe I am wrong.

Hey, Thanks Pal....

I forgot all 'bout "Junior" Bernstein!
