Watch for them to go up in BR now that Kiss FM is out of the question.

As I said, KSTE was a pretty good CHR/Urban for everywhere's else than what was supposed to be it's home New orleans..Funny ain't it But yeah look for numbers to go back to around 2.5 or so IMO for KRKA ...

But I think that's 2 months of red..and looks like the blowups they did in BR ain't working out.... So how long till red goes classic hits totally (and leaves wanna be jack alone) or goes to another format?

i would have to guess the next format to be classic rock. what else would work down here? like 105.3..that would be nice for baton rouge. but red sucks! nothing like what i was expecting..at all..and my favorite station is up again..107.3 :)..seems they added some music finally. heard some 90s today!
______________

Well with the sucess of WKBU in New Orleans..I think right now people may want a AOR rock station again... I'm the kind who mixes doobie brothers and three doors down... People grew up on that variety and for the 25-54 demo that seems to be what's happening... If done right, some of the current rock playlist can be added also with no problems (I'm still a beleiver in that...also feeding it over 103.3 would be my idea but it don't count)

But truthfully, they need to take red back to basics and what Citadel promised in radio and records and have a competition against WDGL with classic hits... take away some of the outlaws on the playlist (like say Cindy Lauper and keep some of the favorites like supertramp etc... I think it could pull some numbers..but will also take a good ad campaign to get everyone to retry it (maybe the best thing is to kill the red slogan, start anew with another one and go classic hits IMO)

I finally saw the slight downturn in Diva NOLA I was waiting on.. Now if it's just normal up and down or the burnout factor is coming into play I can't say right now.

Red going more towards Eagle is the only sensible move. Then again, this is Citadel. Even if they do go more towards Eagle, they have three handicaps:

--LSU numbers will make Eagle so huge, Red will look small by comparison
--can't beat Walton & Johnson with "more music morning"
--SIGNAL SIGNAL SIGNAL! Eagle has building penetration, Red does not.

As for Diva, they need to set their sights onto 102.5 and go after 'em. If they play more rhythmic music, they could pick up the KSTE listeners.

If Citadel doesn't make slight adjustments, this disaster will get worse.

The degree of movement on Eagle 98.1 and 104 The X should surprise people; it's only the last month in this book that Rock 93.7 had turned Red. Looks like the Rock had run out of steam before the flip.

The River's downward trend is the big story of this book, along with 93.7's demise. New Country 100.7 is also a big question mark.

Questions:

Can someone explain how Brother Larry's station jumped so high? I'll bet someone in the congregation got a diary. Will they reach these heights again, being a canned sattelite station?

Why can't 1210 the Score do any better? They have NO competition!

Will 104.1 be real competition for 1460?

answer. between bethany north and bethany south you are talking around 40,000 members...im sure a lot of those members had diaries..and i doubt it on the second part..

Red flipped in April, which is the first month of the book...so it had two full months to drive everyone away. And no, the jump for Eagle and X is no surprise...Citadel gave them an early Christmas gift with the flip to Red. I know you have a thing for X, but don't fool yourself..they were no competition for Rock and are now a "last resort" for the rock listener( a little something there for you Papa Roach fans...:) )

Biggest reasons, in my opinion.

1. No promotion of the station. Zero. You could argue that the show's hosts being on location do that, but really, they are promoting their show on the station, not the station itself.

2. Low power at night kills it almost everywhere, making it almost worthless.

3. You can only talk about LSU so much. I don't think there's much of a general sportstalk audience in this area. There's some, don't get me wrong, but not enough to make a big showing in the ratings.

Reasons why The Score 1210 Fails

> Why can't 1210 the Score do any better?

I'm an avid listener of sports talk in town, I'll tell you a few reasons why they are not doing to well and what they need to do.

1. They need to get better organization of shows. There is no unity to in the station. All the jocks are independent contractors and don't even seem to like eachother. Buddy Songy and Josh Innes seem to be at ends all the time.

2. They need to actually drop some local programming. They carry Rome and Cowherd. But, as someone said, you cant talk about LSU forever. They could keep the local programming, but make the shows better.

3. The shows need to be taken more serious. EX. Buddy Songy is terrible. I dont care what you say, but as a host he's garbage. He's a homer. He will never go against the home team. He leaves callers on for 10 mins at a time and it gets old. His show is filled with sexual inuendos and is a giant commercial. Jon Fine just fills up air time with a poor show in the most prime time radio slot. They need to do something with the morning slot. Maybe take the two most sports knowledgable people on the station, Josh Innes and Jimmy Ott and put them in AM drive time. Get rid of Blake Andrews all together. He basically just reads the paper on air. Clear up the 11-12 slot with the final hour of the Herd.

4. The station needs new imaging. Get all the shows to have the same "voice" guy. Give the station a make over.

5. Heres a perfect Line up

7-9 Josh Innes and Jimmy Ott- I say this b/c Jimmy Knows sports and Innes is loaded with opinons. He's talented and he's got a swagger about him on air. That is what you need in sports talk. The shows are to buddy/buddy
9-12 The Herd - Best national show on radio.
12-2 Buddy Songy- Tell him to stop taking 10 minute calls and get some order in the show.
2-4 Rome
4-6 Either keep Ott here or move him to drive time and move Innes here. Morning drive and afternoon drive are the big talk radio spots. You need to have your two big guns in these spots. Personally, I think Ott and Innes are the two best on the station.

6. PROMOTE the Station!!!

I agree with you burnout, that is one of the reasons I put the sly mark about moving it to 103.3 instead.

The current 103.3 Diva needs to be blown up,blown out and sent to it's room until it can do like KSTE was doing in town... Even on a signal as 93.7 it would still rock the ratings, since it would be in town and could aim it as such...

104.1's only problem is it's was in the wrong base market... Cause ratings I gathered elsewhere were mid ground to top...only down place was NOLA it seems..

But you have to remember that this is WCDV's first full book with the format. I would give Citadel some time before they blow it up. The same applies to WDVW as well.

Won't see anything for the Capital City Diva until the NEXT book.

It's just disappointing that in a town that is run by the college team, we can't get a really good sports talk station. This independent contractor stuff just makes the station sound tacky. There are 4 local shows with 4 different voice guys. They break at different times. There is no order on that station. Whoever is the PD needs to pull his head out and make the right moves. It could be a station that is listened to more than IBR is they would just market the damn thing. I went to that Hornets game at the PMAC last year and all the CC stations were represented by banners except the Score!!! How is that possible? They have to realize where the talent is and isnt. The could either combine Ott and Innes or put one in the morning and one in drive time PM. Either way, those two should anchor the line up locally. I'm tired of all the crappy homer talk, lets get the guys who will stir the pot and get people fired up. Good ol boy radio has to stop!

more thoughts..

the one thing they really need to do is drop all the local crap except for afternoons..3-7..thats it. the rest of the time it should be espn. unless there is a game on. and speaking of games. why arent the astros on there? i dont like the astros but it seems logical as houston is only 4 hours away. jbo has the saints. why dont they have the texans? ( i dont like them either)...?? they have the hornets and tulane but what else? i agree they need a new pd.
______________

For the record, 93.7 flipped to Red at the end of April, but your point is well-taken. But I disagree with your statement that the X was no competition for Rock 93.7. A year ago, they were half a point away from Rock for no reason. And, the drop in 93.7's numbers is so sharp that it could only have begun before the format flip. Also, it can be argued that since 93.7 didn't force The X to change format, they failed to remove a big impediment to their future success.

Yes, I like the X. They play great music. I prefer AAA but since we don't have that here, I'll take 104.9.

Agreed. There's some life in that Diva. Too bad for them 92.3 still gets into this market just fine; there will be confusion.
