It's time for a new sticky. From now on, if you don't see a station on this list, it has returned to regular programming.

Radio:

AM

690 WTIX: off air, hopes to be back by December 1
870 WWL : normal programming*
1230 WBOK: off air
1350 WSMB: simulcast of WWL
1560 WSLA: off air

FM

88.3 WRBH: on air at very low power, broadcasting online at www.wrbh.org
89.1 WBSN: off air, but broadcasting online at www.lifesongs.com; hopes to be on at low power in December
91.5 WTUL: off air because of no access to studios; hopes to return by January
94.7 WOPR: returned to Dowdys from city of Slidell; sounds similar to old "Sunny 106.1" now**
104.5 KNOU: on air at very low power
105.3 WTKL: simulcast of WWL; confirmed to go oldies as "Kool 105.3" after URBNO ends
106.1 WKSY: Citadel assumes control, flips to "contemporary standards" as "Martini 106.1"
106.7 KKND: off air; hopes to return by December 15

TV:

6 WDSU: off air, currently broadcasting programming from 49/WPXL
12 WYES: off air, studios suffered major flood damage, hopes to return PBS satellite feed soon
20 WHNO: broadcasting LeSea satellite programming; studios suffered major flood damage
32 WLAE: on air via satellite and cable with looped programming, LPB, and live Sunday mass; studios suffered major damage
49 WPXL: simulcast of WDSU; regular Pax/i programming on DTV 49-1

DTV

6-1 WDSU: off air
6-2 WDSU Weather+: off air
8-1 WVUE: off air
12-1 WYES: off air
26-1 WGNO: off air
32-1 WLAE: off air
38-1 WNOL: off air
49-2 WPXL: SD feed of WGNO
49-3 WPXL: SD feed of WNOL
54-1 WUPL: bad stretched analog feed

* - No Rush, though. Bob and Vinny from Kool 105.3 currently handle shift.
** - I wonder why they haven't returned to simulcasting with 94.9. Also, they have the right calls on their legal ID, but not the right frequency. They say "WOPR, 94.9 (it's 94.7!), Lacombe-Slidell-Mandeville"

Some notes on the big companies:

Clear Channel: As of November 7th, returned to broadcasting from studios on Howard Avenue in New Orleans. Jocks are returning to regular shifts.

Entercom: As of November 17, returned to broadcasting from Dominion tower by Superdome. Jocks returning to regular shifts.

Citadel: Broadcasting from regular studios on St. Charles. Jocks returning to regular shifts.

WWL, WDSU: Both are broadcasting from their regular studios.

WVUE: Studios were flooded out with about 4-5 feet of water. It was ironic that on Fybush's site of the week on New Orleans, he predicted that all the others would flood, but not this one.

WGNO, WNOL: Currently working out of temporary offices in Covington. Newscasts are done remotely from places around New Orleans. Same situation as Entercom when it comes to moving back to New Orleans Centre.
______________

Hate to nitpik but would that be December? As in December 1st they are hoping to be on?

According to their website,With donations and help from other christian stations, They are working on a transmitter that should be fully operational by December in NOLA.

The newscasts around New Orleans are a new idea they came up with that they plan on using for forseeable future. News Ops are supposed to be out of trailers by New Orleans arena.

That area in Mid-City must have had some particularly bad flooding. All of WVUE's facilities, if I remember right from my visit there, were up in the elevated part of the structure, with just the lobby and parking at ground level.

Then again, the parts of the city where the WWL-TV and WDSU studios are (both with substantial parts of the facility at ground level) are on some of the highest ground.

And BTW, thanks, Arthur, for your regular updates to this sticky. Hugely valuable information!
______________

Anyone know if their old rooftop antenna survived the storm, or did they have to rebuild?
______________

According to them, they had some damage to their transmitter, but it didn't seem to be fully destroyed. Otherwise, they'd probably have to wait another month and a half.

http://bizneworleans.com/109+M5b53dd41592.html

But an unrelated, but funny story.

Hot 104.5 (KNOU - Empire, LA) had their tower DESTROYED by the storm. OK, that's not funny. However, they applied to the FCC for an STA to broadcast a low-watt signal from a rooftop somewhere in downtown New Orleans. Even though they were far out of their 60 dBu range, they claimed it was needed because a lot of people from their 60 dBu range were staying in New Orleans and needed emergency info!

That's funny because there's hardly anyone from Plaquemines Parish in New Orleans right now (hell, there aren't even many people from New Orleans there right now!), and that they haven't stopped the non-stop hip-hop.

Anyway, the FCC rightly denied that one.

Is it just me or does q93 play more gospel when 104.1 is back to the gospel format... I know it's cross promotion but up until about 2 days ago, hadn't heard gospel since before Katrina on q93 (when I pass the station on my way to search for other stations)

is it just me or is cc obsessed with gospel. 940/1041 sunday mornings on 98.5 and now on 93.3..they want 12 stations per market to compete with xm. heres an idea. use the ones you have. put more than one format per market. we dont need that much gospel. and they sure dont need 12 stations!!
______________

They are obsessed with cross promotion to get 104.1 the send off they never did as part of other formats apparently. But yeah it becomes a question of where to draw the line at self promotion (Like CC's adds for one radio stations on another as an Ad I'm ok with, but to place a form of music never on the station before to promote the station, would be like putting country singer Keith Urban on a active rock station... It's music but how much of it will drive fans away?

According to their website, they are on the air now both webcasting and in New orleans but is reduced to a 1kw transmitter

Returned to regular programming on November 2nd or 3rd ending the URBNO broadcast even though entercon is still broadcasting from CC studios.

They should put modern/active rock on WRNO while there is a format void. They would beat out KKND because of their superior signal in the metro (if they chose the right music selections). Also, the format would compliment the Rod Ryan show (not that I listen to it), but would be a better fit. If that were to happen, NOLA isn't big enough for 3 rock stations...would likely leave KKND hunting for a new format. Also, despite WRNO playing more variety, I think it will eventually lose the race to Bayou if it remains classic rock.

On a separate note, I've been really enjoying the Country Legends on 106.1. Hope it stays for a while.

Re: clear channel and gospel

Perhaps Clear Channel is obsessed with Gospel because they know they are going to Hell for what they have done to radio.

WDSU back on air

WDSU 6 currently on air with same programming as they are providing on WPXL 49

Reports from others monitoring are that WDSU is still going on and off air..Possibly why 49 hasn't gone back to being I yet

Considering i's programming, maybe they're better off being a simulcast of WDSU -- it's airwaves better used than Paxson's futile attempt at "independent television".

I's programming , even though it can be bland and repeats of cancelled tv shows, is supposed to be aimed at those who find other network programming "dirty"..The original reason for Pax was for those same christian people that FOX puts on "meet your new mommy" and has them scream for the promos :)

But truth be known, the 49 signal is alot clearer on the bayou than WDSu's main ch.6 transmitter is...
