Re: New Orleans Radio/TV Status (Updated 9/20/05)

Where I'm at,I should be able to catch it pretty good (considering I've been hearing Hot 104.5 on and off for a while) But haven't heard a peep out of WTIX-FM

> 94.7 WOPR: playing oldies now? change of format?

See other post, could be relay of Dowdy's Tangi 96.5? Or is it independant?

> 26 WGNO: running feed of WBRZ in Baton Rouge

Dunno about that..at 6:30pm They were running Family Feud whereas WBRZ was running Wheel of Fourtune...Some control perhaps?

> 49 WPXL: running WDSU feed of continous news from WAPT
> studios in Jackson, MS

They seem to be running some NBC programming. During local spot load placement on today show they would air phone numbers to contact various agencies.... They are running crawl when on air all times. Also some news coming from WESH in Orlando (Helana Moreno and Dan Millhan apparently are in Florida from what I've seen)

Tymer,I have noticed what is apparently WBXN-CA airing WB programming Can't be sure but has same signal strength as this station did before the storm... and nearest WB I can find on 18 is in Florida. Trying to catch TOH Id but haven't been luckly yet..anyone else out there can help?

Edited: New Orleans Radio/TV Status (Updated 9/22/05)

On Thursday, Add WKBU 105.3 back online for Entercon in New Orleans

Also on Wednesday night, the source of WVUE's signal from Mobile to it's transmitter in New Orleans became possibly apparent .....

For at least 30 minutes, the sound of normal programming with a Direct TV screen saver on the screen...

Right now, coverage on all the URBNO has turned to Hurricane Rita and what the 2-4 inches of expected rain water will do to the already failing system.

But We hope and pray for our readers in SouthEast Texas and SouthWest/Central Louisiana who will get to witness a storm that is at least as bad as Katrina or worse......

RFLA

Edit- Forgot to add WNOE 101.1 is back also

MIA currently is WRNO 99.5,WTIX-FM 94.3?,and KKND 106.7 from what I can tell

In terms of strength, maybe not -- as of 7PM ET on 9/23, Rita's now a 3, with winds of 125 MPH. Still major, but nowhere as major as it was earlier, or as major as Katrina when it landfalled.
Edited by rugrats1 on 09/23/05 11:02 PM.

Re: New Orleans Radio/TV Status (Updated 9/27/05)

WTIX-FM has been back on air since Monday (9/26), working from their backup transmitter, which basically covers only Jefferson.

The status of the stations that are up and running is as follows:
Diva 92.3 djs back and very limited commerciua run, maybe 4 an hour.
Bayou 95.7, B97-Running jockless and about 4 commercials an hour.

> at least near it

Must be less than full as usually it has a pretty clear signal for being a "fringe" signal in Thibodaux (before the storm)... Now it can't even be heard in Thibodaux.. Have to get closer to it's transmitter to hear it now

EDIT- Found WTIX has an auxillary station at the tower that puts out 21kw.. Gives most of the New Orleans area City grade but looses city grade over areas like Metarie (and would produce the signal I'm catching on the bayou)

> 99.5 WRNO : regular programming

Is it me or is the audio real low ?

> 100.3 KLRZ: regular programming; Truck gets to keep his
> station a little longer

I wonder how much is a little longer?

> 101.1 WNOE: regular programming

Seems like they too are not up to full power as they are fading in and out on the Bayou..it fades with KBON in the background..Usually this station is the only thing on (around Thibodaux)

> 106.7 KKND: off air

Been hearing a lot of 106.7 Jackson on here lately... just waiting for the end to show back up

Here on the Bayou, KBZZ 96.7 has been relaying KCIL 107.5 since Hurricane Rita blew thru... I know KCIL had issues with being on air right after but as of right now, I don't know why they haven't flipped back to soft rock for on 96.7 (as it's mostly a automated station)

EDIT- Also found WKBU 105.3 and WTKL 95.7 flipped callsigns as of Monday.... So WKBU is now 95.7 and TKL's 105.3

Also of note is 105.3 is still low power compared to normal.... and Bayou seems to being playing 90's-2003 music a lot harder than before the storm.

Citadel's working real hard to get it back on. Have to put in new pilings and mount a new building (concrete this time). Stay tuned...

Update on 89.1 WBSN "Lifesongs 89.1"

http://www.lifesongs.com/

Looks like WBSN is attempting to get back on the air, but their transmitter is a goner according to the website. They are currently webstreaming only from Atl as they work to regroup.

A benefit concert for the station is scheduled for the Mandeville Trailhead ampitheater on Saturday night -- several local Christian artists will be performing including Carolyn Russell and Robert Sturken.

I see them iding the station, must be at low power as I only get the faint hint of the signal in Thibodaux (I can tell something is there but do not know what)

Verified that this station is on LPTV WBXN-CA channel 18. was running simpsons and found commercial for Sex and the city with WB38 plastered on at the end of the commercial.

Any pictures

Any pictures of the studios/transmitters and the damage?

(Aside from what we're seeing on WWL's site).

Re: Any pictures

I've got some cool pics from when me and crew were down there getting WWL's Poydras street location back up and running, I also think another member of our crew took some pictures when we were setting them up to broadcast from the EOC in west Jefferson parish the day after Katrina hit.

little interesting tid bit bout WSHO, we had just got 2 of their new 3 studios set up, built and on the air not 2 days before Katrina hit..talk about putting a damper on the rest of the project.

But they are up and running from their new location in One Canal place, soon as the storm was over we were out there fixing their transmitter, studio, and dishes.. etc(along with getting WWL broadcasting from the EOC in west jefferson the day after the storm)...So WSHO is fine and dandy, and finaly got out of that horrid plaza tower location...or like our crew likes to call it..." the tower of death " ..and with good reason, but that is a story for another day.:)

Another side note on WWL, we have also put their 3 big dishes back up at their poydras street location in new orleans..I think as soon as the building people clear the place for tenants to resume business as usual they will be fully back broadcasting from their new orleans location.
