New Orleans

Mike Brown of FEMA is a spin doctor.
Wonder when someone will start asking some questions like, "Where is the federal government, the army?" Mike Brown says FEMA was, Quote, "Not aware of the people in the superdome until today." that was his exact words on CNN, Bush or anyone from FEMA hasn't turned on the news in the last 72 hrs.... please...
President Bush and his cabinet are a disgrace. The Gov. of La. is nowhere to be found...it's really sad, we can go anywhere in the world and help other people but we can't get into New Orleans..... it's just sad.

He said he didn't know about the situation at the convention center, not the superdome. At the couple interviews I saw he said convention center, and didn't say superdome. Either way though, it's absolutely horrible. People were told to go to the convention center and supplies weren't there.

On tuesday you got Bush in San Diego talking about Iraq. He should have been at the superdome (and/or the convention center) on tuesday or wednesday with a bullhorn (like after sept. 11) telling everyone help was on the way. Or if not Bush, somebody, anybody in power.

Perception is everything. The current perception is that a lot of people feel abandoned. But you got to understand that conditions are absolutely horrible for police, FEMA, troops, etc. Streets are under 8 ft. of water. There's little if any communication in New Orleans. And it goes on and on.

Is it very difficult to get supplies into New Orleans, and get them moved around? Yes. Could more have been done sooner? Yes

There was one story on Foxnews that the violence and looting was getting bad (this was before the President left Crawford this week) and officials wanted to try to get the situation under control before the President went to New Orleans. The poor response to this catastrophe is any ONE person's fault. I think the fact there are so many people still in New Orleans shows the city and state wasn't prepared from the beginning for devastation like this. On the same token, you can't force people from their home when a hurricane is headed towards them. You can only say I warned you. If people start arguing over the thousands of people still in the city and the thousands more that are dead, they'll never be able to recover from this disaster. Instead of blaming people, think of how you can help.

AMEN! But, you can't forget about how the fed. gov. wasn't prepared either. Just before sept. 11, 2001 a study was done by the fed. gov. to determine what would be the most devistating disaster. No. 1 was nuclear attack on a major city. No. 2 was major earthquake in L.A. or San Fran. No. 3 was a levy break in New Orleans. I saw on the news this morning that Bush and Congress have taken away $30 million from the effort to improves the levies. There was also a member of the LA house of rep. who represents the French Quarter and she said that for year local officals have been begging for resources to try to prevent something like this.

There are just so many factors that have led to this, before and after katrina made land fall. Last night Arron Brown on CNN was interviewing a NOPD police officer who said members of NOPD were walking off the job. The officer said that some presincts had 20%-25% of the officers just walk off the job and leave. He went on to say that a couple of presincts had lost over 50% of thier officers. An example of one of the million factors hindering efforts right now.

I don't agree with everything President Bush says or does, either, but I think we all need to step back and take a look at the enormity of this situation. Sure, Mr. Bush made have made some mistakes, but, then again, he's human, like we all are, and as a country, we never have experienced any type of natural disaster of this magnitude. Could we have done any better under the circumstances? Is it really fair to say President Bush and his administration are a "disgrace" when we, ourselves, aren't in their "shoes"?

What's really "sad" and "disgraceful" is the way that some people in here treat each other. Some people in here get attacked for just stating their opinion, and get criticized and insulted just because they don't work in the broadcasting industry, and therefore, supposedly, are "stupid" and "don't know what they're talking about". They are only people's opinions (whether we agree with it or not), but I do believe we can all respond back in a thoughtful manner, without resulting to attacks and insults. Whatever happened to the "golden rule" of "treating others the way we want to be treated"??

I stand by my comments, The responce was slow.
Bush was slow to get things moving. Yes he dropped the ball, you can watch the news. It didn't take us 5 days to get in to other parts of the world... most cases we were on scene in less than 48 hours.
It's always fun to see "Bush People" jump to stop an "attack" on the president.
In the United States we can give our opinion on any topic, that's not an attack.
We must hold our leaders accountable for the actions they take. Speaking out, writing on info boards, on radio, everywhere.

Yes. The government should have sent in troops the day after the storm. Mayor Ray Nagin asked the Gov. of La. and the President the day after the storm to send in the troops and help... it took FIVE DAYS.

Today in Washington, many leaders are asking for an investigation into why the responce was so slow. Would you consider that an attack? We have to find out what went wrong so it never happens again.

I wasn't stating that your opinions weren't valid. You are entitled to your opinion just like all of us are. I do disagree with what you said regarding statements about Mr. Bush's way of handling the matter(I'm not going to go into that, because I'm not in here to debate political issues, etc, after all, this is a radio board).

My post was not directed to you, even though it was your post to which I responded. I do disagree with you, but that doesn't make it a personal attack. I do have problems when people in here express ideas and then have other people come back who think it's their right to use personal attacks and insults as a way of "expressing their opinions". That's the main gist of my post, not the fact that I disagreed with you about Mr. Bush

God Bless

I can't agree with you more! This is a radio board first of all but second, since when did it become a crime to have a differing opinion? Third, what's more important right now? The fact that it took 5 days before the President of the United States of America could have security going into unstable conditions and the military was just as late or the fact that right now there are thousands of people sitting in a pool of disease and waste waiting to get to fresh water and food and thousands more are without homes tonight because of a force of nature? If you are going to complain so much about Bush, do it somewhere besides a radio board and then do something about it!

Unfortunately, this topic is going to dominate the airwaves for the next several weeks if not months. Putting this back on radio, and mainly for the talkers, what is actually dominating more? Relief efforts or a bash bush fest?
