New Ottawa FM testing

Astral's CJOT is now testing at 99.7 as of this evening. The format will be AC which is the music they're testing with. This displaces CIIO to 101.9 temporarily, from which they will again have to move when CIDG begins testing later this year. CII0 had been using 101.9 for it's French language service. As of typing the French service is off the air entirely. If and where it surfaces is anyone's guess.

CJOT's signal at 99.7 doesn't appear to be that strong at all in the downtown core. I'm getting a 6 out of 7 on the signal strength meter and it's very easy to overide, thanks to CJWL's recent transmitter move, which has made FM listening in the downtown core very difficult on many frequencies.

Is there any mention of what they will call the station during anouncements? How about a website? Can anyone aircheck this? How about a phone number? I know in Canadian testing, they have to give that.

Oh excellent...more AC, lol!

I'm picking up the signal very well, down here about 80km south of Ottawa. I'll give 'em a listen and see if they offer anything which makes them stand out from the crowded FM band. Oh, what a second...Kenny G's version of "Joy To The World"...? Now that's different! ;D

And yes, they are giving ID, ERP ratings and phone number.

Ottawa's brand new radio station launches on 99.7 FM May 27th 2010.

"You're going to like what you hear, and you're going to love the way we're about to introduce ourselves".

is what they say in auto response if you comment in their "comments" section over to the right on their website.

Apparently, the “like” and “love” thing is not just their auto-messaging system. There’s more to this. When they say “You’re going to LOVE the way we introduce ourselves.” Looks like they’re hinting at what’s coming. According to radioinsight, love997.com, and ottawalove.com were registered to Astral on the same day as the ottawa997.com website. This means, I believe, that 99.7 will become “Love FM,” with the same format as “Magic,” meaning that anyone hoping for a female “Eve” station can throw that idea in the garbage can.

All excellent points, but have you listened to Magic FM lately? They seem to be fiddling with their format to the point where the local Dental office may be tuning out before Love FM (or whatever) even becomes an option!
I bet if you walk into just any Dental office at random right now, they've already switched from Magic to Jewel (for now.)

There is going to be one ugly ratings mess in the Ottawa market soon...

Was listening to the stream of 99.7 today, and they said the new station will debut at 6 (in 2 hours.) I probably won't be able to listen then. If anyone hears it before I get back, I'll check these boards to see what it is, please post it on this board. Thanks.

EZ Rock? Oh ya, now that's different...

Actually, I'm waiting for DAWG FM to fire up their test signal on 101.9. Hopefully the signal will reach down my way and be strong enough to get past the local SRC repeater on 102.1.
