New overnight show on KDKA

KDKA is now running the CBS show Overnights With John Grayson. Is Dennis Miller done on KDKA? He lost his major outlet in NYC as of Monday also. Also, who will replace O'Reilly on KDKA starting on 1/19?

I figured they would simply move the Dennis Miller Show to 10 p.m. and run it until 1 a.m. I wasn't listening last night and the KDKA program schedule hasn't been updated yet so I'm not sure if they dropped O'Reilly a little early.

Grayson is out of KMOX in St Louis, he has been doing nights for a while at the Big 1120 and a few years ago partnered with John Carney doing a duo talk show called "2 Johns...no waiting!"
As for the 10pm slot...maybe Jay Leno will take it over in the fall! ;D Seriously, I'd like to see them go live with Thor Tolo. But if I were a betting man (which I am not) expect them to pick up Fred Thompson who is supposed to take over for O'Reilly.

I thought Fox was syndicating John Gibson as a replacement for O'Reilly, and supposedly expanding the shift to 3 hours.

None of you appear the least bit concerned that your 50 thousand watt heritage radio station is becoming just another syndicated downlink. ???

For a city that has always believed in "local people" this is truly sad.

"...is becoming?" That ship sailed when they first plopped Limbaugh down in the middle of the day. Frankly, I'm surprised they're still trying to do something local after 7 p.m.

You're a romantic (not that there's anything wrong with that). KDKA is just a business, nothing more. That's all the owners believe it to be.

While I always found Logue's show to be a bit much it had listners and they managed to sell it. And it gave KD a "24" live and local statement they cannot make today.

Someplace Special is just someplace else and has been for about a decade. Nothing will change until the business model for the industry blows itself to pieces sometime in the next 3-5 years.

You're suggesting adding a proven show like Limbaugh's to a news-talk station would be the death of it.

No, I'm not. I'm addressing the issue of KDKA using non-local programming.

hmmmmmm....yes, we forget, it's not art, it's business. kdka is not alone in trying to find the economic solution to an industry losing more and more revenues everyday. are numbers even a factor anymore? what drives me nuts about kd is the revolving door...let's try this for six months, listener gets used to program and then let's pull the show and try something or someone else. syndicated shows strike me as impersonal, especially at kdka, touters of live and local, someplace special, hometown, etc., etc.....i imagine these shows are cheaper, but there is a price to pay. they don't seem to click with an aging, provincial demographic...one of the most attractive shows is the weekend dr. knowledge thing. i have to admit, it's throwback radio, but it is addicting. could they bring back ed and wendy king.....? THAT WOULD REALLY BE A MIRACLE....it's a fact of the business today, cut, cut, cut and pray for something to stick that will make some dough. it's ugly and with increasingly more competition for the public's ear, the future looks bleak. california.

i was unaware of that. (DR. KNOWLEDGE BUYS HIS OWN TIME) thanks for the info. it's kinda sad, one of the most interesting and fun shows in town, and the guy has to buy his own show.

Re:KDKA TO GO ALL SPORTS 1020

here's a weird idea. kdka goes all sports am 1020? imagine the possibilities....the wdve morning show in the morning with a bevy of pop in regulars like tunch ilkin, the bus, ed bouchette, john clayton and so on and so on.......mid days with stan and guy, just stan and guy, no attachments, mark madden, yes!, afternoons and let him do his thing, unleashed!!!!...and ellis cannon 7 to midnite!!!! he certainly has the energy for five hours, and toss in the intern, producer types overnite. they can also help to clean up the studio of leftover pizza, dried up wings and empty bottles of diet coke. ok, it's a fantasy sports talk lineup on a station with more power than a 9 volt battery. i can dream can't i? CALIFORNIA

you are so right snafu...but the company that takes an underproducing fm and goes all sports will win in this town. the am sports thing isn't making the grade.
