New owners for WPEB (88.1)

From AllAccess:Silent Noncomm Philly FM SoldWEST PHILADELPHIA EDUCATIONAL BROADCASTING is selling noncommercial 1-watter WPEB/PHILADELPHIA to SCRIBE VIDEO CENTER for $70,000. ($5,000. down, $35,000. at closing, $30,000. in monthly $2.500. payments plus .05% simple interest). The station broadcasts in the WEST PHILADELPHIA area and went silent in SEPTEMBER after years of interference complaints (the station broadcasts on 88.1 FM, and the market has ABC O&O WPVI-TV (6ABC) on channel 6); an application has been filed to move WPEB slightly southwest.

I called channel 6 and spoke to their engineering supervisor, Elias. There was NO complaints on record with channel 6 in references to WPEB.I wonder how the new owners got suckered into buying WPEB for $70,000??

I don't know....Given the price of a full-power FM in the Philly Market, $70,000 for a pip-sqweek non-com signal is probably not that bad. Had I known it was up for grabs, and if I had the money, I might have made such a offer myself. It's not really much to pay when you think about it for a "voice" - albeit a small one - in this market.
