New Part 15 FM looking for help....

Here's the gist:

I'm running a Part 15 FM station in an apartment building. I know all structural hazards to a Part 15 FM signal like lots of walls, etc and I only cover half of this building at best. This is just a hobby to kill time. The official date of sign on is May 1. Until then, would there be any Part 15 radio operators with web feeds that would like to simulcast (through their web link) temporarily in the Mount Vernon, WA area until May 1? The temporary station ID is "4KHJ, Mount Vernon" (the 4 being an Aussie call from a time I spent in Queensland, Australia, the KHJ being from one of the West Coast's legendary Top 40 stations.) If you would like to (temporarily) add (slightly) extra broadcast coverage, please respond. I don't care if you're AM or FM, what frequency or even if you are a webcaster..though a similar frequency of 101.9 FM will be very nice. I may even add your station after hours.

I'd prefer a Puget Sound area Part 15er with a classic hits format, but beggars can't be choosers. I will set this loose on April 7, at 6:00 AM on 101.9 FM. Everything is well within Part 15 FM standards and it can't even be heard outside this building.

May 1st is when I begin the regular programming of this insignificant little station. Until then...any takers? First come, first served. I will consider every submission. I would prefer it in ZaraRadio compatible format

Cheers!

Hello Bongwater,

If I had my Part 15 up I would gladly help you out. Right now I'm riding the remainder of the wave for my oldies webstream which will get pulled once I get my AM up and running.

You might want to try posting your query on my Part 15 specialty board, HobbyBroadcaster.net. You might find a taker there. Also, once you get up and running remember to submit your station info for inclusion in the directory.

Best of luck to you.

Bill

Thanks to my IPS its taken a bit to respond! tried this morning our time.
Our Rave HD is available to you; The liners are from your neck of the woods, The format is much like Pulse 1330, in fact the voice comes from 1330. Just click on the Rave HD link on our www.xrqk.com website.

I will also try to address your coverage problem; what kind of transmitter and antenna are you using?

Thank you all so much!

Sorry for not getting back sooner, hellacious weekend.

OK, here's my game plan. I'll be simulcasting East Hill Radio from 6am to 6pm (with an FSN news feed at the top of the hour and Rave HD from 6pm to 6am (got a few techno fans living here) and The Mix Rock all weekend (no FSN feed). I think there's room for everybody who so graciously responded this way. Again, thank you all for your help. Feel free to offer anything else.

The station currently ID's as "4KHJ Mount Vernon".

Now about the transmitter: It's a tiny WAVE FX-100 (FCC ID #BFVGEE120FX100), made by the mysterious Wano-Tech Corporation out of San Mateo, CA. It is powered by 2 AAA batteries (for this purpose, I use Ray-O-Vac IC3 15 Minute rechargeables.) It's pretty much a joke, like most Part 15 FM transmitters. But it has decent enough fidelity and it's in stereo and doesn't overmodulate too bad on it's end, though I think it has a built in compressor. It sports a WHOPPING 6 inch antenna! It does tend to drift slightly (101.85 0r 101.95 MHz) every 12 hours so I have to re-up the batteries at that time.

Coverage is spotty at best, but this frequency locally is clear. It covers about 50 feet reasonably solid and gets ghosty at about 70 feet and disappears at around 90 feet. It's not much but it gets the job done halfway decently for what it is. Only the farthest ends of the complex can't get the signal.

I'm upgrading to a C. Crane FM transmitter this week, which is more stable frequency wise and is AC powered, which may have some nano-improvements to the signal, I'll have to see. I don't locate the antenna outside because in this place, it wouldn't be practical. Besides, this sure as hell ain't big time. I am planning to upgrade to AM later this year or early next, though I'm going to be pretty busy here the next few months, I'll probably have to push the "official" sign on to June or even July. I have a shoestring budget for this little thing, but a web site and web feed will be coming later this year.

Again, thank you all for everything. You're the best!

4KHJ signed on at 6:00 this morning with the simulcast of East Hill Radio (about halfway in the middle of "Born To Be Wild" Steppenwolf.)

"Born To Be Wild".....well, so here we go then.....
