From Robert Feder's column in the Chicago Sun Times:

*It's over and out for Len Weiner after only nine months as program director of top-rated news/talk WGN-AM (720). He's landed as program director of WAMG-AM, the ESPN Radio sports/talk affiliate in Boston.

"It's an honor to have been part of WGN," said Weiner, who joined the Tribune Co.-owned station after two years across town at ABC-owned ESPN Radio flagship WMVP-AM (1000). "It's an experience that I'll always be grateful for, and I thank everyone at WGN for giving me the opportunity."

Weiner, who'd spent a decade in programming at ESPN Radio Network, proved an awkward fit at WGN and never seemed to win the confidence of either his employees or bosses.

**Maybe this is exactly what underperforming WAMG needs...

I think All Access and the others missed this line when reporting. Otherwise, the story made little sense as to why anyone would leave a powerhouse like WGN and relocate to a scrappy outlet like WAMG/WLLH.

At least the station's doing better than anyone else who's tried to take on WEEI. Despite adding the Celtics, 1510 WWZN failed (and is still failing) to find an audience. So did it's predecessor, WNRB. And the original 890, WBPS, didn't have much of a chance. J-Sports is putting an effort into it's product, and it should eventually payoff. (although it seemed that Mega was doing fine on it's own and didn't really need to be changed.)

Mega was doing fine, and didn't need to be changed. ESPN has still yet to touch the ratings Mega got, and even WNNW with its week signal up north beats anything ESPN does. But that's Boston, while the rest of the country has picked up on Spanish radio, we're going backwards.
