Michael Lee started today as the newly anointed PD of Cumulus Rocker KIOL (Rock 103.7)/Houston. He replaces Bobby "Slam" Duncan, who departed a few months ago.

Lee was most recently PD of Citadel Rocker WXMX (98.1 The Max)/Memphis and, before that, spent 11 years as OM/PD of Clear Channel Classic Rock/Active Rock combo platter WQMF & WTFX (The Fox)/Louisville. "He's a great guy," Cumulus/Houston Market Manager Pat Fant tells R&R.

Meanwhile, we are pleased to be able to quash rumors currently swirling about morning guys Walton & Johnson, who are syndicated out of Rock 103.7 to a bunch of markets -- they're not going anywhere. "That show will be so hot in '07 that you'll need asbestos-lined headphones," Fant tells R&R. "We're thrilled with these guys, they're just the best."

Cumulus/Houston needs a new Market Manager

That's why I said in my first response to "big news re:w&j" that I would cheer when I don't hear them on the air.

Obviously Cumulus/Houston needs a new market manager.

Did Michael not bother to come to Houston and attempt to hear the station? Is he aware that KIOL is not even a player (nor could they ever be due to signal issues) in Houston? Was he that desperate for a gig? Good luck to him. Now this begs another question... there's no way they'll let him come in as an off air PD. What shift will he take and how much longer does Wendy have? If she makes it past the first of the year I would be very surprised. Strictly looking at budget numbers versus revenue, there is no reason to have a single jock on the station outside of W&J. Good luck Michael... make the most out of it. When the Kool-Aid Pat had you drink wears off, I only hope you can slavage whatever career you have left after that station.

And, according to snoopes friends at Cox, KIOL is only like
ranked 17th 18-34 anyway. I suppose there's something to
be said for having a signal in market #7 but, after all, it is
