New PD at WGR?

"I believe I've heard Schopp mention in the past how he can't stand politics"

Actually that's just the kind of guy who people would like to hear talking general issues--because most of the listeners can't stand politics as it's being practiced today either, so there'd be an instant bond.

Good luck presenting Schopp as the voice of the common person.

I suspect we have people that have worked with him here, or something of that ilk.

Doesn't sound like Wenger has kept a very close eye (and ear) on WGR over the past couple of weeks.

It's all laughs during Schopp & Bulldog about the "NO BOSS ERA" as Andy has left the building and his position is vacant.

It's a sports show and all, but I think revealing the inside information about not technically having a supervisor is a bit over the top, even for a morning zoo type of FM program.

I guess I'm just old school. Being on "the other side" of 50 does that to me, but I just can't believe that Wenger and Reid and whoever else is monitoring payroll and programming at 'GR while they go through the process of hiring a new PD think it is professional for on-air talent to brag about not having a boss to report to.

Maybe they're not afraid to joke about it because the average person doesn't find it offensive or odd, maybe even gets a kick out of the situation. And as far as management not stepping in to halt this type banter: three cheers for them for keeping out of talent's way!

They've done the NO BOSS "jokes" for a long time, whenever Roth wasn't in for a day and such. They're harmless.

On a side note: I'm not the biggest Joe Buscaglia fan, but he's doing a fine job with the Training Camp 7-9 show. Hopefully he gets a full-time gig on a respectable sports station elsewhere.

They have a boss -- Tim Wenger! Believe me, this is just fun shtick. It's harmless. If management was concerned, I'm sure they'd put a stop to it. But again, they're just having some fun, so I don't see why you're all up in arms about this, George.

How did the latest "draft" go on WGR?

Andy Roth used to blog about each selection during the draft.

Who handled that last week when they did their comedy movie selections?

The whole "draft" concept has to go. I'm not a huge fan of S&B to begin with, but on the days when they are having a "draft," I definitely flip back to music.

The "drafts" get more callers and attention than most topics, so they last. Don't take that to mean they're successful, though.

For those Schopp defenders here, do note that the Bills specifically refuse to do anything with him.

Speculation about new staffers joining WGR sound like they may be true.

Supposedly an out of towner who has WNY ties will be joining the station the weekend of the Bills' season opener and will be doing some weekend sports talk as well as some weekday evening work.

Not sure who it is, but nice to hear that he/she has a connection to the area.

here's my 2.cents:

new year,2012 -
kick off a whole new lineup!

fresh start, maybe a name tweek.
"55-live" or drive55..
sports, primarily, but a healthy sidebar now and again
wont kill ya..

as far as talents, make it known now, that
you are grandfathered into a job - if u WANT
to stay, you will remain on the aire...if u dont,
there's the door!

Despite the carping of many here, including me, the WGR sports brand in Buffalo is solid (props to Linc Hayes). The station produces strong revenue on good ratings through the Fall and Spring books. Re-branding and re-imaging would be... well, no need to be snarky. The station might need some tweaking, but overall, it's doing very well.

Alan Pergament has some news on a new hire at WGR:

According to a Tampa Bay newspaper, Sal Capaccio — who is known as Coach Sal in the Sarasota, Fla. area — will be coming back to his Buffalo home to host a Saturday afternoon show and Bills post-game wrapup on Sundays for WGR-AM. The Tampa Bay Media Examiner report also said Capaccio will host a weekly show on Time Warner Cable. The Examiner added that Coach Sal also has a show called Buffalo Bills Now on Justin.tv.
