New PD for K-HITS...

From All-Access:

COX RADIO Classic Hits KLDE (K-HITS)/HOUSTON names CLEAR CHANNEL AC KQXT/SAN ANTONIO PD ED SCARBOROUGH its new PD, replacing RON PARKER effective JANUARY 1.

SCARBOROUGH previously programmed Classic Hits WMXJ (MAJIC 102.7)/MIAMI. PARKER exited K-HITS in OCTOBER

K-Hits seems to becoming a Classic Rock station. I could be dead wrong, but but I think that K-Hits is throwing some Classic Rock from the 80's into the mix.

I like the sound of K-Hits and think it is a good station, but it certainly is no longer what I would consider an Oldies station. K-Hits definitely has a much harder Rock sound to it today than a month ago or even less. I think that the 60's will be completely phased out by the 1st of the New Year.

Cox actually staffs the station 24 hours a day, which for once I give Cox a Grade A, now if they would work on The Point 106.9 and change the format and fully staff the station, my opinion of Cox will change for the better by far.

Cox has proved after all that they know how to program a station with K-Hits, now if they would spend the money on The Point and Country Legends 97.1 and staff those stations, Cox could have all their stations doing well in the ratings.

The question is, if K-Hits is morphing to a Classic Rock station, Houston definitely can't support three Classic rock stations, with The Arrow 93.7 and Rock 103.7 being the other two. Who is going to blink first and change formats?

I think that Clear Channel will have a new format for The Arrow come the first of January. The ratings for The Arrow have been the mid to upper twos and I'm sure that CC is looking for a format with more mass appeal and higher ratings. What format would CC switch 93.7 to that would generate higher ratings?

No telling what Cumulus will do with Rock 103-7, I doubt they have any idea. Any company that would change their format to one already in the market and pulling mediocre ratings certainly does not have anyone there that is thinking. Cumulus would have done better going to Active Rock and programming Rock 103-7 closer to KROQ in L.A. Any bets that Cumulus will have a new format on 103.7 come January 1st, now that KFNC is going to ESPN Sports full time?

Houston has more than it's share of Talk stations, the best I have come up with is a Classic Urban station. Plenty of Motown, R&B, Soul and some Blues with a staff of Air Personalities 24/7.

Ideas?

I also like the sound of K-HITS, BUT, I believe overnights and weekends are voice tracked. Kevin Charles is that dam'n good! :)

Sorry, No more overnight tracks... just running jingles and sweepers now. I do still track weekend overnights but the daylight hours are all live.

You damn near made me spit my hot chocolate on my monitor there.

You can't be serious. Reason #419,271 that 12+ numbers are ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS!!!

You recommend an Active Rock format yet suggest it should sound like KROQ, one of the LEAST Active Rock sounding Alternative stations in the country. Huh?

I'm glad you didn't spit your hot chocolate on your monitor. I would hate to be the cause of the destruction of someone's property. I am serious about The Arrow, Clear Channel hate them or not, knows how to program stations and they could come up with a better format for 93.7 than Classic Rock which has burned itself out with the same 50 songs played ad nauseam. There is the possibility of several stations changing formats in the next couple of months or all the stations will stay the same with exception of KFNC which we have known about for some time. Call it a gut feeling, but I think we will see some stations changing formats in the next few months. But this is coming from someone who predicted 0% of change in Houston radio in 2006 correctly.

Sorry, meant Alternative Rock, I was thinking about missing formats in Houston and Active Rock is one of them and typed what I was thinking about and not what i meant.

Does this ring a bell: Is K-Hits trying to sound more like Z-107.5? I hope not. If this keeps up, you can say good-bye to Elvis, The Beach Boys, & The Beatles and say hello to Hendrix, The Stones, & The Who. I think K-Hits wants to take on The Arrow.

Good idea. Bring back Ted Carson and Paul Christy in the morning and send that clown a packin'!

I think Christie works for K-Hits-Can be heard in the Afternoon. I think it would be ironic for him to replace Scott Sparks (Another KRBE alum) in the morning. I wonder what happened to Ted Carson?...

Just a note:
107.5 as of 12/14 is becoming KHTC...new PD, new callsign (wonder who will pounce on the KLDE call?)

I don't know, but KZFX (FM) is available, if we're returning to the classic rock era.

That very well could be happening. The last classic hits format we had morphed into classic rock also, KKRW then known as "Classic Hits Arrow 93.7"

Rage, I thought KKRW was "All Rock and Roll Oldies Whenever" 93.7 The Arrow, when it was owned by CBS. I don't remember a "Classic Hits 93.7".

and they changed to classic rock
and Z107 couldn't compete anymore which became an alternative rock station, Rocket 107.

K-Hits is definitely better than it used to be but still has a LONG way to go to be an oldies station. I still hear the same songs playing over and over. They claim in their promos that they play the best of the 60's and 70's. That's a joke! That's 20 YEARS and they can't come up with more songs to play than the same ones over and over??? Doesn't anyone know how to program an oldies station????

I saw the classic rock trend for awhile, pretty much as soon as they became K-Hits. Rock 103.7 is chipping away at The Arrow and so is K-Hits......It is like I said before, CC will beat CBS to the Rhymthic AC/"Movin'" format. CC calls some of these Rhythmic AC's (the one's on HD-2 anyway) "Cosmo", I like the sound of that "The Station that keeps the Space City movin', Cosmo 93-7". And yeah CC, does have this format see Austin and Vegas.........Plus, the sound of Disco 94 sort of reincarnated with this.............
