New PD for KSBJ

Just like the program director of VIDA UNIDA, he has lots of experience in secular radio but according to him his parents were pastors. So something similar could be happening with Mr Fox. Maybe he has some religious background somewhere. We will see what happens.

Contemporary Christian Radio tends to hire secular radio major market talent because the difference is the music, not the formatics.

And I love the retro Way FM jingles...memories of 1970s Top 40 stations!

Are these organic changes or the effects of the impending merger? Is hiring people with no experience in religious programming something KSBJ done in the past?

I will say I do enjoy listening to KKSS from time to time. Its not everyone's cup of tea, but the music selection is on the lighter side of "Hip Hop".

KSBJ is not AFR or BBN. It sounds like a secular A/C station. You might remember "Captain Whammo" Jim Channell went from a screaming top 40 jock to a long career in Christian radio, including the Christian incarnation of WCFL and Way FM. I'm sure there's a statement of faith involved, but it's quite possible for a talented secular radio pro to be a Christian and make the transition

It’s still a business, so you want a good person to help manage that business. ‘Christian’ is a format, like ‘Country’ or ‘Classic Rock’.

As I recall, most PDs at KSBJ have come from another Christian station but most all have been in secular radio in major markets, KSBJ has always followed secular radio formatics. As others have stated, KSBJ has a format and that format competes with secular stations and comes out near the top in key demos.
