NEW PD FOR SPORTSRADIO 610

Gavin has to work on the morning show. I never thought I'd say Marc is the highlight but he is. Clanton is too busy trying to be funny and stuttering all over himself. The next time I hear "this is an award-winning update" because Clanton has to inject his stupid editorial comments and fail to spit out the news before the traffic music has been running for two minutes will be about the 100th time I've heard it.
And get Anna-Megan off the station, please.

That could be solved by ditching the sports updates to begin with. Or at least cutting them back to once an hour. I really don't think it's necessary to give a full update of scores and such every 20 minutes in this age of instant information. I'd say 95% of the people listening to a SPORTS STATION already know whether the Astros won or lost the night before.

If you are a regular listener of 610 in the AM you know it is a virtual Texans infomercial. Since Vandermeer joined the show it's "All Texans, All the Time, All Year". One of the few times I listened was when the Rockets were in the midst of the Laker's series and the focus on that particular morning's show was of course the Rockets and I was completely blown away when after a call Vandermeer says, "That's great, but how do you think the Texans will work with their 6th round pick at left tackle next year?" That's not the exact quote, but that was the jist of the conversation. That is typical of that show. I'm a football fan, but in football season. Right now I'm an Astros fan in the middle of summer when the Stros are on a run, but the main talk on Vandermeer's show is when and how the Texans veterans will show up to camp in a couple of weeks. Remember, ratings come from content. There's no great secret, but so many of the ill-equipped corp suits think it may be something else. Maybe that's why CC and all the others are on the verge of bankrupcy. Want to know why John & Lance have scored big on 1560? CONTENT!!!!!! ENTERTAINING!!!!!!!
GILBERT!!!!!! SEC GUY!!!!!!! COACH WHOEVER ON A MOBILE!!!!!!!!! and on an on. Here's 610 AM: TEXANS DRAFT!!!! TEXANS CAMP COMING!!!!!!! TEXANS VEGAS ODDS!!!!!! TEXANS!!!!! TEXANS!!!!!! TEXANS!!!!!

I'm no genius, but I can figure it out as well as all those others that actually listen to entertaining radio. Unless the new 610 PD can shake CBS Corp politics and the sucking up needed to thrive and succeed, he will drive what should be the sports radio leader in this market right out of business.

1560 is not everyone's cup of tea. That's why you have the ability to change the frequency. I will say this though. For having been in operation for just under 2 years The Game has done remarkably well. I know (in their demo...men 25-54...M-F 6a-7p) they have the highest TSL in the entire market, not just among the sports stations. They also have a nighttime signal on the way and with the addition of Sporting News radio and Tim Brando...I believe they are primed to become the top sports station in Houston. They have a very loyal and dedicated listenership and they (listeners) support the advertisers. Isn't that the real purpose of advertising...results you can see? If you don't like them change the channel. If you do...get on the train!
