New PD Hired for The End

(courtesy Radio & Records June 1)Entercom Alternative KNDD (107-7 The End)/Seattle has hired Lazlo as PD, filling the void left when Phil Manning resigned last week. Lazlo is currently the PD/Afternoon jock at Entercom Alternative KRBZ (96.5 The Buzz)/Kansas City. Lazlo teills R&R, "if you're passionate about the Alternative format and about radio in general, there's no better radio station to be a part of than The End. For me, this is a dream come true." Lazlo has been at The Buzz since November 2002, when he joined for nights and eventually worked his way up to APD before being given PD stripes in May 2004. He started out at WPLA/Jacksonville as MD/Night jock in 1996. He's also done stints in Toledo, Key West and Detroit. KISW/KNDD VP/GM Amy Griesheimer said, "I am so excited to have Lazlo on board with 107.7 The End. His passion and vision for the station makes him an amazing addition to our team. I look forward to the incredible heights to which he will take the End.”

From what I can tell, Lazlo has done very well with The Buzz in KC. I hope he has the same success here.

They'll need a complete website overhaul at KRBZ when Lazlo leaves Kansas City. It's ALL about him. And I do mean ALL! Congratulations to Lazlo!! Best Commercial Radio Personality of Kansas City 2003 and 2005There's also a Church of Lazlo ...and elsewhere on the station's home page he's christened the "Malcontent Messiah."

Check out www.churchoflazlo.com This is a guy who came to the midwest and literally started a movement. He got parts of Kansas to vote democrat, I mean that's gotta be hard. He took the station from Nickelback to the Dreseden Dolls and brought the ratings WAY up. One of the few sucessful alternative stations left. There is backlash in KC about him leaving. His wife, Afentra, is the morning host and apparently she will stay back for a while.

The word is that this guy has done a ton for "alternative" radio in those parts. Looking through his websites (his and the stations) it appears he has a real male demographic style. So, will he come to The End and use his style to create a competitor to KISW or will he have to change up a bit to fit the "indie" stylings of Seattle? The End has got to do SOMETHING. They're dying in the ratings, which I'm sure was the reason for Manning's forced resignation.

Actually, he seems to appeal to women as much as men, maybe even more. He is not a "let's talk about boobis" type of DJ. He is controversal, but its over politics, religion, music, etc... I'm not sure if he's going to do a regular on air shift anyway, so you may not really hear him at his best.

I know its only been a week since Lazlo started, but has anyone noticed any significant changes in the way the End sounds. I listened briefly for about a hour yesterday and didn't notice anything. Is there anyone who listened longer that might have noticed something?

Sheesh, Dan, give the poor guy a chance to unpack his boxes before he starts making changes on the air!

Why don't you wait a month and ask this question again.
