INFINITY Country WYRK/BUFFALO announces R.W. SMITH as the new PD. He replaces JOHN PAUL who will be heading to Country KUPL/PORTLAND to take on the PD gig. SMITH most recently served as PD of the JOURNAL/TULSA duo Country KVOO and Classic Country KXBL but exited the post after only a few weeks. Prior to the he held the PD title at Country WIXY/CHAMPAIGN, IL for almost eight years

Hi-Yo Silver

Wow. They essentially hired a guy out of market #215, who had a cup of coffee in market #74. Has 8 years with Saga, Mavens of the Midwest.

Must be a hell of an interview, huh? Works really cheap? Is a bird-dog for Saga, who may be looking to expand eastward?

Heck, it's only Infinity's most valuable property in Buffalo. Why spend money there?

Once again Rox, you are clueless...

R-dub is a GREAT PD. WIXY was a powerhouse that consistently won CMA small market station of the year. Steve Holstein (yes, the interprep guy) was Smith's morning guy- RW knows how to hire and train talent. WIXY had incredible stationality.

Saga has nothing to do with him getting the job, trust me... Silver holds the keys and he hired who his ego told him to hire- He picked a star.

You have zero county credibility, so don't post here if you have no clue- WYRK just hired a superb replacement.

Clueless

Not so. I have Clue. Mean Mr. Mustard in the library with a Silver Hammer.

Thank you for your input. You're right. I don't pretend to be "countrified". I had to look up "CMA".

Actually, it's pretty hard to screw up the only FM country station in the market. Congratulations to "R-dub" for escaping market #215 after only 8 years.

Keep us informed on his progress, Smokey. I won't be listening.

Will Silver go for the gold and hire a separate PD for Jack? You'd think he/they might have learned a few things the hard way about putting a format on the air and treating it like the red-haired stepchild.

The idea of even NEEDING a PD for Jack escapes me. It sounds like all of it...all of it....comes in off the bird except for spots. THAT'S where the money is saved and that's why companies love it so much.

Now maybe I'm wrong, maybe someone local has to plug in the music...which would be even stupider because there's no local feel to the station so WHY spend more dollars...it SHOULD come off the bird...its cheaper!

* No jocks
* no programmiung elements (not even early Sunday programming I think)
* NO local promotions (and if there are, use another promo director and give them an intern to implement)
* Nothing local

So well all have check books, we all want to end up in the black at the end of the month....if this is the format that Infinity wants and helped to create and its all centralized out of NYC or where ever...then continue to save the money on staff and do not hire a PD.

Now you may begin to tell me how I am wrong.<P ID="signature">______________
