New Pick Up CHKT 1430 Toronto, Ontario

For the first time i picked up CHKT 1430 AM out of Toronto, Ontario at my location in Bristol, Connecticut. My radio a Sony Walkman with FM, AM, TV (no long able to be used obviously), and Weather. From what I found on Google they're called "Radio Fairchild" and run Chinese programming.

Normally if I'm able to pick up anything on 1430 it's WNSW out of Newark, NJ or WENE out of Endicott, NY.

CHKT has been absolutely screaming in here lately. I'm only 300ish miles away from the major Toronto AM's though. I would recommend everyone in the east tries for this one. Their Chinese format makes this one hard to miss.

Unfortunately, (I'm assuming due to the NY & NJ stations needing to be protected) we don't usually get CHKT too well here in eastern Ontario (Actually, check that... it's coming in very well right now, with a Mandarin program). Too bad too, as although my wife and I don't understand Cantonese too well, my Mandarin speaking wife enjoys the chessy Hong Kong pop that gets played. When we lived in Sudbury, we used to pick-up CHKT quite well during day time hours.

I believe I caught this one in 1997 at the NC Outer Banks.

Even when I was stationed near Boston, I could not get this one much (as CKFH), even at 50k. On vacation in MA in '75, I caught it as CKFH with C&W.

I'm sure they get it in Finland over-the-Pole easily!

Although I live just north of Tincap, my experience of CHKT is much different. It's the dominant 1430 here every night. During the winter I can get it all day right around the equinox. I get it so well it can sometimes sound like a local and it's the only AM station I've heard an image of on my longwave tuner. I have it programmed into the radio for the south asian programing in the late night/overnight hours.
