New Pirate in Austin Market?

Yesterday I heard a radio station for the first time that I never even knew existed. In the Cedar Park/Northwest Austin area and beyond I heard oldies on 94.3 FM. The signal was quite strong even on my mediocre car radio. RDS showed the station as "94 Gold" and I believe I heard the callsign "KCHC" mentioned.

I've poured through FCC records (and looked through social media) and can't find anything legitimate that would fit that description. That callsign isn't even currently being used and the very distant stations on that channel are Classic Rock in Kerrville and Country in Comanche (a Spanish-language religious on the LPFM in East Austin).

Anyone else heard it? Know what it could be?

It's KCDR-LP, Austin.

Frank, I don't think that is what i heard. I'm familiar with KCDR-LP and KBPH-LP (they have a time sharing arrangement, officially). I actually heard that station later in the day when I was in Central Austin, but that is not the "94 Gold" from Cedar Park.

Maybe the pirate can move to KNLE 88.1 LOL I heard KNLE is very cash-strapped and running from a building with no AC or heat for several years.

As for 94.3 in Austin, I have heard Spanish Religious music (KCDR) however KBPH hasn't broadcasted that I know of.

At least it's filling a format hole. I don't think there are any other Oldies stations in the area.

I think the last time we had an oldies station in Austin was on 98.9 just before it switched to KUTX. Although KONO-AM comes in pretty good in Austin, I’ve found listening to music on AM to be more of a chore than a pleasure.

I also heard the station at 94.3 identified as KCHC with no city of license. Seems to be based in Cedar Park as signal is good throughout the area but you loose the signal as you drive east into Austin well before reaching 360. The music segments are introduced by “Hittime 19__ “ with a year from 50s -70s and tunes from that year. As I live in Cedar Park it is now a tab on my car radio.

I found another old post about the People Will Radio station that used to be on 94.3 from downtown Austin.
Given the description of the downtown station though I doubt they're related in any way. That downtown signal was interesting though when I heard it before the 94.3 LPFM started.

I Heard 94.3 going south on 183A from Liberty Hill. RDS said “Cedar Parks oldies” and song titles came thru until about Anderson Mill/183. Cuts out on 183s @ about McNiel.

It disappeared for awhile. It is back with a format change! It is now EDM 94.3. Its broadcasting from north of Cypress Creek and east of Anderson Mill. Still quite a signal!

I just heard 94 Gold on Tuesday. They must have been on for exactly a year. Does this EDM 94.3 also have RDS?

I like the story here. So just last week the RDS said EDM and it had generic production talking about playing the biggest dance records in the world in-between songs. That was pretty short lived, for an Austin format. 🤣
