NEW PIRATE ON 100.1 FM!

BRS is able to go east into Newton and Brighton , does get hammered west by 100.1 in Worc. and north by Prosect Hill in Waltham.

There's a legal station on 100.1 in Worc ( http://www.worcesterpike.com/ ) and also WBRS Waltham! ( http://www.wbrs.org ) BRS getting problems from pirate?

I was able to get the fringe signal of WBRS here in Somerville. I enjoyed listening to Greg Sarni's late morning "True Blues" show, but no more. This overmodulating Haitian pirate from Boston is wiping it out completely.

If I swung the antenna the other way, I used to get the fringe of "The Pike" in Worcester, but can't get either one anymore.

Eli, a call to BRS CE may be in order. Thay need to know this so they can call the FCC. Some action does take place when they mess up someone's siganl

I told a WBRS DJ who I know about it, and he will report it to their management.

As an unprotected, grandfathered "Class D" FM, I don't know how much clout WBRS will have in getting any FCC action against this pirate.

WBRS's 25 watt signal was extremely weak in the areas where this pirate is interfering, only DX'ers such as myself would say that they could have even gotten it at all where I am in Somerville, or in Boston. The areas where WBRS's signal is considered listenable such as Waltham, Newton, Watertown, and parts of a few other adjacent towns are farther away from the pirate and are probably not affected by it.

I've been working at WBRS to help resolve some issues. I think that one of the pirates that was busted at 99.7 may be also be back on, so there seem to be 2 of them. WBRS is being squeezed by various licensed station as well. We hope to mobilize enough muscle to get the FCC to act. Support is always welcome.

In addition to the Boston 100.1, seems like a new one one popped up in Brockton over the weekend. The audio is terrible. Goodbye WWFX.

WBRS' biggest problem is that the trees beside Rabb Hall (their transmitter building) are now taller then their antenna is. You will probably find their signal getting out pretty good now-but come spring it will suck again once the leaves come out.

To the poster about WBRS's Grandfather status, they are indeed protected from pirates as they have a license which trumps unlicensed in any case.

To the poster who said 100.3 is cacaphony, WKKB: Middletown, R.I. is the Providence-area station.

How many frequencies are being clogged by pirates? Are they all Haitian?

Yes and no. The trees are, admittedly, something of an issue...they've grown a lot in the 20 years since WBRS went up on Rabb.

A bigger problem is the City of Waltham water tank which is barely 200ft away and is the same height as the monopole that WBRS is on. Not only does it create a huge shadow to the northeast, but it's also a giant source of multipath on the campus and surrounding environs.
