New Pirate on 87.7

I'm surprised it took this long (WLNE signed off in April), but there is now a pirate on 87.7, probably somewhere in the Brockton/Randolph area. It's currently running dead air, but it was running the usual Haitian music earlier.

There's also one on 90.1, which I suspect may be the same one that was on 104.3, but I'm not sure yet. Hopefully sometime this weekend I'll have some time to confirm the locations.

Add a pirate on 87.9 FM Wilminton/Tewksbury. First thought it was some cars FM adapter for XM/Sirrus. But they was very little traffic on 93. Signal held to Exit 37C.

It would be great if Mega Media could start an LPTV on channel 6 in Boston and bring Pulse 87 to bean-town.

Has anyone heard music on this frequency since this was posted ?
I have not, but am only checking early morning and some early afternoons.
What are their hours of broadcast ?

I haven't heard it since that weekend. I'm sure it won't be long before it's back, or another one comes along.

I wish the pirate would at least change its name so as to not confuse it with WHAV, which is also known as "The Wave."

www.WHAV.net

1640 WHAV is pretty powerful for only 100 or 200mw's i can get it throughout Plaistow and most of Haverhill with a weak signal. And i do agree 87.9 the wave should change its name. 87.9 as well as the real WHAV are both great stations. WHAV is still my #1 favorite local radio station though.

Chris,

Are you listening on a car radio? It used to be that was the best way to pull in weak signals, but AM on my car radio is full of noise from, presumably, the car's modern electronics. I can hear WHAV from Primrose Street at the Route 125 end in Haverhill, north on 125 and into Plaistow, NH.

Can anyone recommend a good AM car radio?

I do listen on a car radio. The one i have is a pioneer super tuner III. 1640 comes in pretty good especially when you have the engine turned off. 87.9 fades in and out and in some places is unlistenable as well as 1640.

Was picking up the Wave 87.9 in Haverhill and Georgetown on Rt 97. At one point in Georgetown
there was a sign next to a house (kind of like a political lawn sign, or the ones contractors working
on a house would plant) saying "the smooth sound 87.9 The Wave"

I received the Wave 87.9 faintly in Dracut in the car earlier this evening. Signal kept fading in & out, but was able to clearly hear one of their jingles.

most ipods and phones that arent made by apple have a configuration option to ena ble 70 to 88 mhz or so, labeld Japan or so.

i doubt any pirates are crazey enough to use this region tho

Now there's another new pirate in Brockton, on the opposite end of the band, with terrible audio on.... 108.1!

A lot of the homebrew 100 milliwatt FM's operated on 108.5 MHz back in the early 1980's. Once the Panaxis PLL type transmitter units were showing up, most of the old 108.5's moved into the commercial band (92.1-107.9). Also, most receivers were being manufactured with digital tuners in the late 80's and not going up above 107.9 MHz.

AND TO PUT IT BLUNTLY: Today, going on to 108.1+ is a risky and STOOOOPID thing to do, considering it is in the aero-band! Idiots.
