New pirate on 88.5 -- "Off Coast Radio" -- playing rock. Announcer claims he's on a boat in Boston Harbor and that he cruises up and down the east coast. He also plugged AudioLab in Harvard Square. It's coming in clear in Medford and Somerville.

WOW! Plugs for "audio lab!" Talk about a name from my "electronic past"! That company did more than its share of repair work on several of my reel-to-reel tape decks during the 70s! Don't know who runs the shop today, but its predecessor was very, very good!

As for the pirate radio station...aka "off-coast-radio"...how's the programming sound? Would it be something an experienced engineer could "co-ax" into local transmitter?

I'm sure the format would be a hell of lot more pleasant than listening to Howie Carr???

probably... shades of Radio Victoria, which broadcast in the waters off England.

I don't believe this is a new pirate, but it's one we've been hearing from off and on for the past few years.

I think it's the new incarnation of what was formerly called "Radio Free Cambridge" which used to broadcast at 88.5 from the Zeitgeist Art Gallery in Inman Square. I heard that they were busted, but someone involved has the equipment and is now operating it from a residence in the nearby area somewhere near the Cambridge/Somerville line.
