New Pirate on the air

Driving around downtown this morning, I picked up the Spanish religious facility operating on 87.9. I remember this guy from a few years ago...even giving out phone numbers to make donations, etc. Has anyone else caught him doing his thing?

Where's Acres Homes?

Acres Homes is around I-45 @ Hwy 249 (West Montgomery.)

I heard the 87.9 pirate a few weeks ago in the Rice U. area. Poor signal, appeared to be Spanish language religious programming. Some years back, a rather well programmed pirate "Radio Apostolica" was on 87.9. Spanish language religion, decent audio, pretty slick production for a pirate, even took phone calls on the air.

BTW, Rice's Reckling Park has play-by-play of the Owls baseball games on 87.9. Has anyone in the Rice area ever checked to see how far this goes? I would assume it is only on during games at Reckling.

No, 96.1 "The Zone" is still running strong in Acres Homes, Pinemont, Garden Oaks, Oak Forest, and the Heights. I hear it every day fighting with KYKZ out of Lake Charles.
______________

Where's Acres Homes?? How long have you been in Houston? It is a section of Houston, roughly between Antoine and N. Shepherd (East and West) and Stuebner Airline and Pinemont (North and South) The reason for the name of the community was that when the area was settled it was done so by former slaves that were given one (1) acre plots as settlement for their years of labor. To think that AH used to be in the middle of the country, now it's engulfed by the city of Houston. Although something very unique to Acres Homes that none of the rest of the city is able to get away with is that if you live in Acres Homes you are allowed to have non domesticated animals such as foul, pigs, and horses on your property.
______________

Thanks for the description of Acres Homes. Unlike some on this board, I haven't lived in the Houston area all my life, so I was unfamiliar with this particular community.

Now that that's settled, the "Radio Apostolica" is the same thing I remember hearing back in '03 and '04. You're right-he did take calls on air besides asking for money. No stereo though.
