New Pirate Operating in Hudson Valley on 102.5

It appears that a new pirate radio station is up and running playing mostly a reggae type format that looks like a retransmission feed off of the internet. They are operating on 102.5; coverage is mostly southern dutchess county/northern Putnam county. The are over modulating and interfering with 102.7 so its only a matter of time until they get shut down by the FCC.

Maybe someone in Jamaica should open an RF consulting business aimed at serving the Caribbean pirate in the US.

Haha, that's a good one.
There are several pirates in eastern & southeastern Mass. which cause this type of interference which haven't been shut down.

How will they be shut down? Will the loyal listeners of 102.7 write/harass/bother the FCC into taking action? If that doesn't happen, the pirate will operate unfettered. The FCC doesn't monitor this stuff, they act on complaints. You need lots of complaints for the FCC to take action.

I don't know if we are talking about the same pirate station, but I was in the Arlington section of Poughkeepsie today, (Friday) and a Reggae type broadcast on 102.5 came in strong, clear and in stereo, strong enough for my car radio to stop on 102.5 while scanning. They announced in English 'You are listening to the best music anywhere on the air and on the internet 24/7".There was little if any bleed over to 102.7. By the time, I returned to my home in Hyde Park they were rather weak and choppy but still listenable, if you like that sort of music. The station was defiantly a pirate broadcast, probably using an internet feed, and fairly current as the announcer was talking about March Madness.

the fcc is composed of guys and gals who drink coffee and wait for a complaint. they mostly spend their time looking at their watch to determine when it is time to leave for the day.
they are in the pocket of the very industry they serve. the best thing you can do as a fcc employee is put in your 20 years and then go work for the industry you regulated.

as for pirates, few beat the long actvity of wldj middeltown on 740 khz in the late 60's. coverage was from newburgh to port jervis.
