New Pirates Announcer

The Pirate organiztion thru the years have taken a once proud franchise and turned it into the joke of baseball. I used to be a huge Pirate fan. Nothing they do excites or interests me anymore because they always do the wrong thing. This is yet another example. I would have promoted Greg Brown to this position. Not because I enjoy listening to him so much. He's O.K. But for better or for worse he is the voice of the franchise. He has been with the organization for a long time, but yet he is young enough that he could have become the next Lanny or dare I say the next Bob Prince. Not that there will ever be another Bob Prince. Hiring an outsider from Colorado is in my opinion, yet anorher bad move for a franchise that has already made too many.

Well how I understood it, was that when Lanny retired, Greg Brown would be considered the new "voice of the Pirates."

FM- I know what you're saying, but the mini-article the P-G posted doesn't do Neverett justice.

Evidentily, the guy started back in the '80s as the announcer of the Bucs' AA franchise in Nashua, N.H.

While there are stronger ties to the organization and Pittsburgh, it is a link.

Whether he will be able to build on that with the stories about the time Willie Stargell came through as a roving instructor or the shout-outs to Central Catholic and "my old friend Larry Lamonde," I don't know.

Greg and Lanny have been Co-No. 1 for the last several years. Greg gets more games on TV, which is the power spot. He also voices all the promos for the team. He's not being slighted by this hire at all.

And honestly I expected them to hire someone dirt cheap out of the minors. This guy has worked for the Rockies, done a weekend show on Sporting News Radio and a full-time sports talk gig in Denver, and college football on Versus. So at leas they went and got someone with legit experience.

The one and only thing that ever matters is what comes out of the speaker.

Perhaps you should wait until you hear Tim call at least one pitch before you judge.

Un-freakin-believable!

I never meant to criticize Mr. Neverett before hearing him. Obviously, I would like he and the Pirates to succeed. I should have been clearer. My problem is not with Mr. Neverett. It is with the Pirate organization. Namely the Nuttings. They field a Triple-A team year after year. Loyal Pirate fans buy this garbage because the Nuttings know how to mask this minor league team with fireworks nights and giveaways. Meanwhile, the Nuttings are laughing at these fans who have deserved better for years. Laughing all the way to the bank. I know people who vow to never return to restaurants and other establishments after they receive bad service. Yet Pirate fans still return game after game, year after year (is it 15 or 16 years? I've lost count). This is what I call "unfreaking believable". So forgive me if I've lost faith in the Pirate organization. I don't blame Mr. Neverett for taking the position and wish him well.
