New Platform For Radio Discussions? And error 429

Hi - I saw that there is a few comments regarding a new platform for Radio Discussions. I must ask will users accounts be migrated over or will users have to create brand new accounts.

Another thing I highly recommend looking at is cloudflare, I use cloudflare myself and it has helped with so many things including bandwidth.

I bet the bandwidth is incredibly large.

Also I use T-Mobile home internet and I have noticed I'm getting error 429 a lot.

This issue known as error 429 happens on both radiodiscussions.com and radioinsight.com

Will this eventually be fixed?

The site already uses Cloudflare.

I've been getting error 429 occasionally on various sites that use Cloudflare (both this one and unrelated sites) recently, but only using my phone. My computer seems unaffected. I don't think it's specific to RadioDiscussions.

I saw a forum post saying that Radio Discussions is moving platforms. I'm worried about the change, will users loose their accounts or will the new platform migrate over everything.

Interesting. I've never seen that and I have tmobile home internet myself. I do notice certain parts of this site can be incredibly slow but I'd have to check which parts again and see if there was an error code

The Chief Operator of this board is looking for a good platform that would float his and everyone's boat I believe. I know doing a platform transfer can be tricky. The ham radio board I am on went from vB to XenForo long ago and they were to transfer the accounts, profiles and other stiff over.

The older posts before a certain date were archived on the original platform which was set to read only. The new posts after the day were moved over. Like here, the enormous size of the DB on the ham board necessitated that. After the change the board was really speedy!

@IKHNetworks I've been managing websites and servers for nearly 30 years now. With both this site and RadioInsight, which are hosted on different servers is that you're dealing with sites that get mass traffic spikes and large networks of bots scanning. I recently discovered I was getting hit with massive server load spikes on Insight, because a plugin was incorrectly looking for a font in the wrong directory. After repairing that, many of the speed issues I had went away.

Because I inherited this platform, I'm learning it as I go and it is not the best for handling large databases quickly.

But any change to this site is still months away and will be well communicated. And all accounts/posts will be imported.

@Negin The platform has been chosen. It's simply a matter of the limited time I have to configure, test, and transfer on top of solely managing the most read radio industry news publication, maintaining my 25+ station and syndication clients sites that I consult and manage,

I know you mean well, but I do have a thing when people try to speak for me though... I don't want things getting misconstrued from not coming directly from me.

Sorry, I will refrain from further comments on board stuff. I should've keep my comment brief and just said "Can't wait until the changeover happens."

Looking forward for when the new platform is launched.

Feel free to share about using the current software, but if its something directly related to the future of the site, the only person who knows what that entails is me...

Depends I guess. I used a hot-spot a couple times the fibre was out and some sites running through Cloudflare went ape-**** on it. This board and some others threw a "Performing security verification" or whatever message CF throws. I'm guessing some phone's ISPs are used as bad actors, but who knows.

I probably get that more than most on some sites as I use Adgard DNS and if I really want security I'll use Proton VPNs secure core.
