No, but Dain Craig had been at KSFI 100.3 SLC for the last 11 1/2 years and I listened to KSFI on the net and it is an exact duplicate of KODA 99.1 Sunny 99. The station has Love Songs from 7pm to Midnight and the playlist matches Sunny 99's to the artist. The slogan is "FM 100 Continuous Softhits" and very low key like Sunny. I can't imagine Cox going head to head with Sunny, actually I don't see Cox doing anything. How many PD's has Pointless 106.9 gone through in the last few years with no change in the format? But why would a PD leave one of the top rated stations in Salt Lake for KHPT? I realize he is moving from market 34 to market 7, but to a nothing station from a very respectable station. I would think that unless he can put his talents to work this would be one of those moves that would hurt your career more than help it. It appears that KSFI has been Soft AC for many years now so he wouldn't be bringing in any new format to 106.9. I guess Cox just wants to fill the position at the station, although it seems pointless if 106.9 isn't going to do something with the current format. KSFI is at www.fm100.com for anyone that wants to hear Salt Lake City's version of Sunny 99.

Someone please tell me...
...what is wrong with the people at Cox? I have spoken to a couple of different people in radio, and what I pulled out of it was that Cox is a great bunch of people to work for, and that they treat their employees well. So, why do their stations sound so half-assed? Is it just Houston? Are we like the black sheep of the Cox family of clusters? Since the Birmingham Point flipped, I think we are the only market left with a Cox owned 80's format.
One of the liners on the station is "everyone's getting the point". So, tell me Cox, why haven't you???

I understand this is a bigger market, but unless some serious changes are forthcoming for the station, this is one job I think I would've passed on. He must have gotten a lucrative contract.

My God, some personality at KHPT would be a welcome improvement. There are good jocks at the Point. I used to enjoy Heather Walters' Breakfast Club in the mornings. She has personality. What happened? Morning show cancelled. So, now every jock says the same thing after "another long set of continuous 80's music". I'm not questioning the ratings, after all, some very good music came out of the decade. What comes across the air is obviously being read, and it really sounds like they don't even care. "You've just heard Roxette, The Look, on Houston's 106.9 The Point..and remember you can get the song title and artist of every song we play, simply by clicking on the 1069thepoint website..etc." Same thing over and over and over. I've never listened to the other 80s stations besides Dayton and Houston, but other than the frequency they're basically the same. I'd say it's amazing, but hardly so in this day and age. Do the other Cox 80s stations sound exactly like 106.9? I probably already know the answer, but am just curious.

I've never listened to the other 80s stations besides Dayton and Houston, but other than the frequency they're basically the same. I'd say it's amazing, but hardly so in this day and age. Do the other Cox 80s stations sound exactly like 106.9? I probably already know the answer, but am just curious.

Sunny isn't very personality driven and they do great.
If you're sitting in an office concentrating on your work and with the station on in the background, you really don't need exciting personalities.

I see your point. However, Sunny's jocks talk about more than just where to find song titles and artists. They expand beyond the liner cards. During the afternoon, Donna McCoy sounds warm, has interesting things to say, and her show has an overall good presentation. (I know, I know. Clear Channel can do nothing good.) Heather Walters' midday shift sounds like she is holding back, or being held back. She used to have that warm, welcome to my show, feel. Now, it's missing. I don't think this is Heather's fault.
I will say, after I posted what I did yesterday, I flipped the radio over to The Point and heard the weekend jock, Kevin J. Now, I only have 4 words for you, Mr. J. Stick to the cards! "Simply Irresistible" was sung by the late Robert Palmer. Not Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer was a golfer. He stumbled around for 2 minutes on this, and it's the only thing he has to say besides the website plug, and he fouled it up terribly. Um..oh...uhhh..mmm..uh..heh..heh..uh.. does not come across as good radio.

After talking with some folks who were and are there in SLC, I think the words "jump before you are pushed" come to mind. Dain took a heritage station and in the 2 years he's been PD (that's right...2. He's been doing mornings for 11 1/2 years...) has brutally underperformed. They have the Christmas hertiage, and nearly got beat this past book. Check the arbitron numbers for KSFI since 2003, and you'll see it too.
