New Poster, Old Broadcaster

Hi folks, just found this board and have spent the afternoon reading many of the posts. Nice to hear about some familiar names and places. Would love to hear more about the Jonesboro, Batesville, Conway, Blytheville markets--places I've worked in my career. I'm back in Batesville now after being away for 25 years. Nice to be back!

Yes, Missouriradio.net is where I got the info about this site. Not much happening on the Cape forum, tho, where I spent 4 years. Would also like to hear from some Searcy and NC AR folks as well.

I was at KCON in the late 70s, hired by Paul Logan, then Paul Coates bought the station.
As far as revealing my identity, I almost have already with my username. But, you show me yours....

ASU grad in '78. KFIN was my first pro gig, when it was Beautiful Music, out in the boonies, then KBTM-AM & FM for the Pattesons.

Would be kinda fun to find out whatever happened to...Perry Box, David Yates, John Horner, Rick Powell ("John Fredricks", last in LR about 10 yrs ago), Gary Robinson, "Reetuh" Richardson (ARN?), Clay Marshall, MadDog Murphy. I know Carl Stevens is out there somewhere, last in MO, I heard. And, hey Kemm92, Uncle William left the scene many moons ago. He was getting way too dangerous, and expensive, for me.

I was across town at 1330 when Mike Harrison first bought the station. Sam Jordan.

I worked with Carl Stevens at ARN... Last I saw him was about two years ago, and I haven't heard from him since. He had been working at KICK in Hannibal before he came to Little Rock.

Rita Rich ardson is in Russellville... She is a part-time minister, and still does some work for KARV. She most recently was the director of the River Valley United Way.

I think Gary Robinson is in Shreveport.

Hey Ramblin... e-mail me when you get a chance. [email protected]

I heard from Carl a couple of years ago when he applied for a news job we had in Sikeston, MO. (He was way over-qualified...meaning: he was asking for too many $$$!).

Saw Rita about 6 years ago at ABA (wonder if she still keeps a journal with something in it about everyone she's ever met? She did that when we were both at KCON--I thought that was pretty neat).

Gary's the first person (of two) who ever fired me! Had tears in his eyes when he did it, 'cause it was a budget cut and he had to let several go.

Worked with Mike H. at KBTA-AM in early 80s. Wore a coat and tie for the night shift. Have talked with him (and used CSN) several times since I've been back.

I'm grateful for a great gig as Program Manager for the Graces @ WRD Entertainment, Inc., in Batesville! Love being back in the Arkansas hills, and back on the air at "Arkansas 103-Three, KWOZ, THEE Country Super Station" (I signed this big sucker on December 1st, 1981!).

Having a big time hearing from you guys, too.

Ramblin',

Do you know what happened to Paul Logan?

I know Monty Rowell is trying to run things at KCON (Owned by Univ. of Central Arkansas) / KUCA.

Interesting situation. The tower is on the South end of campus; and now they own the station too. Heard they were thinking about letting the license go back for 91.3fm.

Radioboss (Sam Jordan)

Have no clue about PL. Kent Morgan came in after him. He (KM) just recently passed away rather suddenly. Saw Monty probably 5 years ago. Hadn't changed much since '78. What a great part-timer he was back then! (Love me some good p-t'ers!).

Monty does a good job with the campus stations, and he has become a heck of a teacher/mentor/role model for the kids who are in the radio program. And of course he is still the basketball voice of the Bears after all these years.

There are a bunch of other KCON alums who are still around. Becky Rogers of course is on B 98.5 these days and probably is one of the best women's voices in this part of the country.

Wow, had forgotten about Becky! Another great part-timer! Ran into her at a Dan O'day seminar in OK City years ago. Anybody ever heard of Ben Brannon? I roomed with him while in Conway. He introduced me to Byers Rum... I think he may have gone back to Atlanta...or AA.
